Shahin Entezami, also known by his stage name “@tegh” is a musician and sound artist and practitioner based in Tehran, Iran. In his music, Tegh tries to bring new aural experiences to life by using various audio elements and complex soundscapes. These experiences usually manifest his personal perception of facing new stories, geographies and different situations. The ways he usually tries to express these ideas take root in Noise, Drone and Experimental electronic styles and sometimes manifest themselves in the form of electroacoustic compositions. 

He has also released albums and singles on labels like Opal Tapes (UK), Zabte Sote (IR), Hibernate Recordings (UK), Dronarivm (RU), Inner Ocean Records (CA), Midira Records (GE), Futuresequence (US), Flaming Pines (UK), Bitrot Recordings (IR) and more.

Also, based on his eagerness to discover the world of other artists he has been involved in many collaboration projects like “Artirial”, “Temp-Illusion”, “Umchunga & Tegh” and so forth.

Behrang Najafi, is a musician and sound artist based in Tehran, Iran.
He began his musical journey by playing guitar and drums in some local bands and later made a transition to electronic experimentations in 2010 under the moniker “@bescolour”.
Alongside his solo endeavor, he is also a member of the electronic/experimental duo
"Temp-Illusion”, an innovative and prolific collaboration in electronic experimental composition.
His works have been released and exhibited on labels such as “Zabte Sote/Opal Tapes”, “Soft Recordings” and “Flaming Pines” and he has played live at various venues and festivals such as SET Experimental Art Events, TADAEX festival, CTM festival, SETXCTM festival, Tehran Contemporary Sounds, Berghain Club, Alice venue and so on.

Siavash Amini returns to Hallow Ground  with »A Mimesis of Nothingness,« his fourth album for the Swiss label. Following up on »Harmistice« together with fellow Iranian artists 9T Antiope, the six tracks were conceived in close collaboration with another artist and see the prolific composer intensify his interdisciplinary approach. The six tracks enter a dialogue with the photographs of Nooshin Shafiee, an acclaimed artist whose work capturing their hometown Tehran becomes the starting point for one of Amini’s most visceral and haunting records. »A Mimesis of Nothingness« translates the ephemeral situations and melancholic moods of Shafiee’s pictures into suspenseful soundscapes that masterfully navigate between the concrete and the abstract.

Amini met Shafiee while setting up the sound art space SEDA Projects at the Emkan gallery in Tehran where the photographer’s second solo exhibition was shown. Following the suggestion of curator Behzad Nejadghanbar, the two started a fruitful collaboration that would eventually lead to »A Mimesis of Nothingness,« which was written and recorded between the years 2018 and 2019 and which includes a booklet with a selection of Shafiee’s work. The two share an interest in exploring the sensual experience and the metaphysical dimensions of space. »I was fascinated by Nooshin’s approach,« explains Amini who, ever since releasing the album »TAR« through Hallow Ground in 2017, has focused on how our experience of places is shaped by the individual and collective subconscious. »It wasn’t the Tehran that everyone projected into their work, it was Tehran showing itself through tiny and giant overlooked places or objects.«

Amini’s music accordingly does not seek out a specific sonic picture of the city, but rather lets it come alive on its own terms. »A Mimesis of Nothingness« is a disquieting record precisely because it is a quiet one. Working with field recordings, Amini sculpts dynamic portraits that create an atmosphere of tangible suspense that is never fully released. Even when string-like sounds enter the picture as they do on the third track »Moonless Garden« or when the abstract and glacial noise on »Observance (Shadow)« demand the listener’s attention, the six pieces take hold of the subconscious rather than trying to be direct and confrontational. It is sound conceived not as a description, but a circumscription of spatial relations and the eeriness embedded in them. 

»We both saw something decadent or violent about all of these captured places and objects,« says the composer about Shafiee’s pictures. »There is no resolution, just excess. It seems they are eternal remnants of a violent scene, no matter how new or old they were. Never finished, never begotten, a stillborn.« Throughout »A Mimesis of Nothingness,« its ghost roams freely.

SIAVASH AMINI - Moonless Garden (HG2006)

CHIASMA is a prototype, representing the initial results of my project on composing with genetic algorithms and evolutionary computation. 
Genetic algorithms provide means of numerical and combinatorial optimization by generating more promising ideas from a specifiable set of components and processes. Individuals of an initial population with a random set of genes “mate”, and produce “offspring”, which would evolve under the process of natural selection over the course of generations.
CHIASMA uses an intelligent machine listening system to evaluate fitness values of generated individuals, by using fast Fourier transform as its translation method. The initial population is created from two random arrays, representing their random genomes. They mate to create offspring with the successful traits highlighted. Each chromosome array is compared to the target one through a simple linear distance function. individuals would then have an importance weight factor, used as a multiplication value when added to the mating pool, to assure that more desirable genes are passed on to the next generation. A mutation rate of one percent is considered to increase the chance of fit individuals being generated.
The research project focuses on employing the process of genetic evolution as the composition structure, as changes in parameters of the algorithm such as allowed population per generation, mutation rate, search environment, lifespan, etc. influence the events and speed of the system reaching its target. 

The algorithm is written in Supercollider.

CHIASMA

A series of bleak, blustery scenes make up Nazanin Noori’s Farce. Noori, who also works as a theater director, conjures glacial storms and buzzing subterranean server farms on this album; but such scenes were far from the artist’s guiding narrative as it was being produced. The two tracks, clocking in at 80 minutes total, were envisioned as an enraged argument (or a "modular heartbreak") unfolding between two groups of people about a pothole in the road, told from the perspective of the road, and then the pothole.

This surreal, mundane plot device is nowhere to be found on Farce in any concrete way. And this is intentional. Noori, inspired by Artaud's concept of the theatre of cruelty, wants listeners to develop their own sensorial world separate from the musician's. When not darkly ambient, the tracks are full of drama and whimsy, as if a spotlight is following a character along a wayward path, into the hands of fate. The emotional hooks in the sound include a sense of desperate desolation, optimistic reprieve, and of course, the sense that ritual repetition is both a curse and a blessing—but they resist obvious imagery. Exactly what kinds of characters or settings get hung on the album's scaffolding is up to the audience. Listening with a hi-fi sound-system is highly recommended.

Nazanin Noori is an Iranian artist living and working in Berlin, Germany. Her work includes theater and radio play direction, music, and text. She focuses on atmospheric narratives in sound, and works to overcome cultural reliance on sentiment by making dramatic adaptations of non-dramatic texts. She studied theater, film and media sciences at Goethe University in Frankfurt and worked at Deutsches Theater and Schauspiel Hannover. She currently selects Acid Folk for POMP, a sound scenario series on Retreat Radio, and is an artist-in-residence at the Young Academy of the Arts in Berlin.

Club Matryoshka and CTM came together for CTM's 22nd festival edition to revisit the Alpha Lebbeus world, 40 years after we first explored the expansive planet together. With this follow-up collaboration, Club Matryoshka expanded on this unique Minecraft world, together with a story-based gameplay narrative co-developed with artist collective Children of Cyberspace. The six-hour journey was soundtracked by live and DJ sets created by a diverse group of emerging artists from around the globe, curated in a collaborative spirit by Club Matryoshka and CTM.

Founded in 2019, Club Matryoshka is an international virtual venue, home and safe haven to underground and unorthodox music mutants. Based in the Philippines and built in Minecraft, Club Matryoshka was founded and developed by a community of gamers, artists, and musicians. similarobjects, dot.jaime, cavill, ahju$$i, JohnPope, and Maengo69 felt a lack of freedom and acceptance in club scenes, both in Manila and abroad, and sought alternative avenues for sharing their work and finding community. The club opened in July 2019, barely a year before COVID-19 would bring in-person events and nightlife to a halt.
