Spent some time dialing in some big pad sounds on the Prophet 10 (just keep calling it a 5 out of habit), layered them up, added some minimal effects, and threw some latin percussion underneath. I think it sounds like something that could've been a super basic Passion outtake... maybe.

This is a track from 2011. I originally spent a chunk of time yesterday writing just with the piano and came up with the concept and melody of the "emotional animals" chorus. After I finished and had moved onto other things, I realized that the chords I'd landed on were identical (same key and everything) to that old idea (called "Madness" back in the day and included some Dark Knight Joker quote samples). I've always loved that idea, so I spent 8 hours and 41 minutes writing more lyrics, redoing the arrangement, experimenting with new parts, recording, and then mixing this version. And it's still not everything I wanted to do! I didn't get a great vocal take and there are outro lyrics. Also, the mix is very likely severely overcooked because of ear fatigue. But... progress!

Just a simple, little piano track, but I feel like it has a lot of emotion in it. I have been into breaking out of the 4/4 box in small ways lately and there is some of this in the "verse" of this piece. As for a title, I couldn't decide between "You're So Beautiful It Hurts" and "I Love You So Much It Hurts", but love is deeper than beauty and I certainly felt this piece called for depth.
