It has been quite some time since the last time we gathered for a night of MBTS. I wanted to take some time after the pandemic to be quiet and see how the dance music scene would evolve, and what sounds would come out of the standstill that was Covid. Now that I have a good sense of where I want to be sonically, and what kind of energy I want to spread onto dance floors, I am ready to restart MBTS in 2023. Hoj has been playing music at Burning Man since 2004. After all those sets on the playa, he still has no clue what "playa tech" is. But he did play this 4-hour set at the Kazbah on Wednesday night this year. Call it what you want. He just calls it a damn good night in a special place with very special people.

Wir befinden uns mitten in der schönsten Jahreszeit. An Tagen wie diesen kann unserer blendenden Laune nicht einmal Regen etwas anhaben. Er steigert im besten Fall noch den Spaß und ermöglicht einzigartige Outdoor-Aktivitäten. Die Festivalsaison lässt uns nochmal Kind sein und weckt unsere Kreativität. Wir sehen Möglichkeiten statt Hindernisse und leben ein Wochenende in einer wundervollen Parallelwelt. Einzig getrieben durch unsere Grundbedürfnisse gleiten wir gelöst vom gesellschaftlichen Zwang durch die Stunden der Freiheit.
Wie bereits in unserer deep story Nr. 51 angekündigt, haben wir uns dieses Jahr auf unbekanntes Terrain gewagt und uns eher auf den kleinen Events rumgetrieben. Unser Fazit fiel überwiegend positiv aus. Ein absoluter Vorteil familiärer Festivals ist die enorme Zeitersparnis. Anstehen gehört hier in das Reich der Mythen und Sagen. Der kleine Hunger oder das große Geschäft können meist instant erledigt werden, da die Wege Kurz und die Schlangen noch viel kürzer sind. Bleibt mehr Zeit für die geliebten Tanzsportaktivitäten. Kleine Wermutstropfen sind da lediglich die zeitweise unbesetzten Stände und leeren Tanzflächen. Zudem ist die Auswahl natürlich geringer. Wenn einem die Musik auf Floor 1 nicht in Schwung bringt und Floor 2 gnadenlos überfüllt ist, muss man sich manchmal eine kleine Zwangspause gönnen.
Dennoch ist das Gesamterlebnis, egal ob Massenevent oder Kleinveranstaltung, oft das Highlight des Jahres und schafft einzigartige Erinnerungen. Wann sonst steht man 4 Uhr auf weil einem der Beat aus dem Zelt zieht, tanzt ununterbrochen 3 Stunden und legt sich wieder schlafen.
So lasst uns das Ende der diesjährigen Open-Air Tanzsaison gebührend feiern und all die guten Begegnungen und Erfahrungen nochmal in den Kopf rufen. Dabei wird uns kein geringerer als David Jach behilflich sein. Der dieses Jahr durch seine zahlreichen treibenden Sets auf Festivals und Open-Airs sicherlich vielen von uns unvergessliche Momente beschert hat.

This was part of my opening set at the Hacienda event in the main room at the Midway in San Francisco before Solomun went on decks. First track is my new edit of Rocket Man. 
Playing a sold-out 3,000 person show with that sound system is one of the craziest and funnest experiences I've had both as a DJ and human. Set starts out deep and as the crowds' pack in picks up to build the energy in the room for Solomun's set. Hacienda is my new production company and festival event that we started in 2019. Our first show was with HotSince82, then Solomun for our 2nd, and our next show is scheduled for May 16th where I'll be joining the main-stage with Maceo Plex, Stephan Bodzin, and Rooz, at the grass lawn on Treasure Island, SF.
