This summer sees the very timely arrival of a brand new record label from the Wah Wah 45s family. Allison Recordings further explores the world of electronic music, showcasing up-and-coming producers and music makers, as well as artists that have been on the Wah Wah radar for a number of years. Allison leans towards the dance floor of course, but isn’t your average club music record label.. Whilst this imprint was set up to represent a more electronic output, the soulful DNA of Wah Wah 45s still shines through.

The debut compilation, Sun After Rain, can hopefully provide something of a soundtrack to more optimistic times. The ten artists, providing eleven tracks in all, come together from across the UK from London to Liverpool via Birmingham, Brighton and beyond - from Bangkok to Berlin and Cologne to Amsterdam.

From Brighton to Berlin, and a name that might be familiar to fans of Wah Wah 45s. Having provided a stunning remix for Cinematic Orchestra bass player Hunrosa, and contributed a club friendly re-edit 12” to the label’s Dubplate series, Lavan was one of the first names on the Allison Recordings list. And so naturally, Out 4 Da Gusto, his optimistic and foot friendly contribution to the compilation, was also the first single to be taken from it. We look forward to more sonic joy from this rising star in the coming months too.

Phuture Shock Musik keeps it moving with No. 5 in their limited dubplate series, which sees deep house titan Trinidadian Deep return to the Bristol imprint with a 2-track juggernaut of percussion-heavy riddims and mystical frequencies; entitled ‘Jah Fe Movements’ b/w ‘Casa Profunda’.

Picking up where he last left off on PSM; with 2021’s ‘Dub Rockas’ EP, and following a recent remix for label mate Rosie From The Block, the NYC-based producer delivers a sure-fire pair of secret weapons, that once again captures his inimitable brand of deeply spiritual house music, with a typically rich medley of African, Caribbean and Latin influences oozing throughout.

Fronting the A-Side is the meditative vibes of ‘Jah Fe Movements’ a tech-infused heater for the late-nighters, where driving 4/4 kicks and frenzied percussion charge forth in unison with an entrancing keyboard riff, largely engulfed by a smoky haze of livity chants and bubbling dubtronic tones immersed in reverb and delay. On the flip is the uplifting, Afro-Latin-flavoured rhythms of ‘Casa Profunda’, which by contrast is a more sky-facing affair but no less aimed at the dancefloor as the lead cut, awash with breezy, euphoric pads and jazzy sax licks, that meander between sultry Latina vocals hovering over percussion-fuelled beats and a rolling bass groove with a tropical bounce.

PREMIERE: Trinidadian Deep - Jah Fe Movements [Phuture Shock Musik]

Heels & Souls Recordings roll into reissue number eight with a double dose of early '90s UK street soul magic, splitting the sides between two sought-after cuts from Elaine Vassell and 3rd Zone.

Step back to 1993, house music has hit, UK Soul is in full flow and its rawer, DIY street soul sibling is making its mark across the UK’s underground. Fuelled by accessible, affordable production gear and ignited through enthusiasm and an influx of ideas and sounds, two acts drew inspiration from a melting pot of genres they were exposed to, providing their take on soul as they saw it.

Up first, Elaine Vassell - ‘Never Give Up’. A rough breakbeat-driven, mid-tempo groover from a North West London production triple threat, made up of Longsy D, Pinky and Murray. Utilising Pinky’s home studio with its DX7, Juno 106, LinnDrum and 808, they masterminded a track that sits at the intersection between soulful house, hip hop and R&B. Its crunching drum loop, chest-rattling low-end and serene synth lines, lay the foundation for Elaine’s powerful yet emotive voice to take centre stage. ‘Never Give Up’ should have been a future classic, but never quite found its feet.

On the flip side another 1993 gem, as Sansel Ali and twin brothers Mark and Stephen Anglin joined forces to form 3rd Zone. Conceived in Mark’s makeshift bedroom studio, the trio laid down their first foray into recorded music, ‘You Stole My Heart’. Originally promoed as a limited whitelabel in 1991, it officially landed on the group's one and only EP ‘No Real Reason' in '93.

Armed with a handful of synth modules, a drum machine and a Korg M1, Mark, Stephen and Sansel hit with a tough but tender, underground triumph. Part dance, part romance, layering synth strings, chunky breaks and M1 stabs underneath Sansel’s heartstrung vocals and Stephen’s hip house rap interlude, it provides another perfect example of house seen through the street soul prism.

Two timeless tracks that fly the flag for the fact that big studios and big budgets aren't necessary to create songs that really resonate. Each side also contains an alternate version, with the A housing a beatless reprise of ‘Never Give Up’ and the B a tougher, bassier remix of ‘You Stole My Heart’.

Seven Davis Jr. is a singer, songwriter, producer and DJ. Known for releasing various genres of music fusing Dance, Trip Hop, Funk and Soul. 

Referred to as “Sev” by his fans and followers. He is a rogue creative, working with a diverse range of artists (like John Cale, Honey Dijon most recently) behind the scenes in between his own projects. 

He released “Stranger Than Fiction”, his most successful album to date on his own label Secret Angels. Which won the German Record Critics Award for Best New Releases of 2024. His 2025 alias downtempo album titled Mean Bacharach "Sacrifice", was highly rated by Pitchfork. 

He released “Is This The Apocalypse" (EP) on Valentine’s Day 2025. An interlude to his new album titled the “Don’t Crash Out Challenge” out now on all platforms and vinyl.
