You know the saying. The cream rises to the top? There are some key members of the Dj and collector community that get recognized more and more as time goes on. Not only for their knowledge about electronic music and their taste in tunes but also their no-frills attitude and focus on DJing as a whole. Estimulo is one of those handful. A former member of the futura event agency and DJ crew from Berlin with a desire to also release music as a label owner with Mixomat Recordings. Heavily passionate about radio since a being young child has led to many variations of shows dedicated to the music he supports and follows. Most recently, a weekly Radio Show (EstimuloShow @ mixomat.org since 2007, also on Cashmere Radio since 2017) kept him busy. Having played many key clubs throughout Europe while sharing the nightly bills with a who's who's list of some of the best underground names in house and techno isn't a surprise. As a DJ, Estimulo is more in tune with the deeper and soulful side of things. He approaches mixing uniquely with no pre-planned mixes favoring an expression of honesty and desire to play what he wants versus a goal of perfect but often stale mixing. Lately, he has taken to many streaming platforms DJing live with other hardcore music aficionados in marathon long mixing sessions. To say Estimulo contributes to every facet of the electronic music community would be an understatement. Search out some recent interviews with him to get more in depth with his extensive background and future plans. With some 30 years' worth of experience, knee deep into the sound of the underground, you can expect his selections to impress even the die-hards. If you've ever been to Opium Club, you'll know it's a very special place. Not only does the Vilnius-based musical institution have a fine-tuned ear when it comes to bookings, it attracts a free spirited, open-minded crowd, and was the breeding ground for a certain bunch of "troubledours" to come together...

JUODUOMENĖ is the meeting of minds of good friends and talented DJs Clicklounge, Tadas Quazar and Tumosa. The collective formed several years ago and Opium has remained the home of their "unfair club night" ever since.

In-between various radio broadcasts, and their own individual ventures online and elsewhere, the trio have brought over a bucketload of esoteric selectors to join them in the booth; namely Interstellar Funk, Mozhgan, Wolf Müller, Elena Colombi and so many more. 

Now, seeing this trio live in action is something we wholly recommend, but in the meantime they've delivered an hour of hypnotic, driving electronics, best enjoyed (so we've been told) whilst wearing pagan pants and a white rolled up shirt. Get stuck in and you'll soon see for yourself that their musical tastes are just as good as Clicklounge and Tadas' moustaches...

JUODUOMENĖ: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix

No one does it quite like R.E.D (Sophie Red). A DJ and producer born and raised in Wales and known for having her toes dipped in all things liquid and swampy. Now based in London, Sophie has built a renowned reputation in the underground scene which has landed her many appearances on radio shows and streams such as The Lot, Netail Radio and her residency show on Balamii 
The ethereal artist first caught our attention at Floorless festival which some might say is the UK’s cutest intimate summer gathering, as she compelled us with a late Sunday afternoon set in the rays filled with dubby infused, deep tones and rhythms that really hit our souls! Since then, R.E.D who is also the mega mind behind R.E.D Waxxx Records, a London based multi-genre label has spoiled us with many nights of hypnotic atmospheric music. 
In this 1 hour mix R.E.D takes us into a deep, chuggy wormhole that will melt your ears.....

1. How and why did you get into producing / dj’ing?

I have always been doing music since about 8 years old. Used to write my own music with my guitar / bass and singing. I started producing before DJ’ing making all sorts of music from electronic to post punk. When I started to DJ was when I went to uni about 7 years ago, I channelled all of my musical upbringing into this and really focussed on the sound I wanted to DJ.

2. Who, What/where was your most coziest gig you've been to or experienced and why?

I think there are two shows that come to mind here. The first was in about 2017 at a festival called Festival No.6 in Portmeirion Wales. I was with my family and it was raining, one of the venues was a big beautiful hall. We stumbled across a poet called Mike Garry who was collaborating with composer Joe Duddell. It was cosy and emotional as everyone was getting dry from the rain. 
The second cosiest gig I have been to was just as the world started to open up post Covid and gigs started to happen social distantly. I remember a night I went to Ronnie Scotts one evening and watched one of their in house jazz bands, unreal low lighting cozy vibes. 

3.Are you an introvert or extrovert in the industry?

I have always been an introvert even though I may come across as an extrovert at times. 

4. If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?

Everything in its Right Place by Radiohead. Everytime! 

5. What is your routine when preparing for a gig / production/writing session? do you have any special remedies/ mental prep/ places to go to? :)

Ahead of shows, I usually do a face mask in the morning, do a some sort of work out/walk to clear my head, take my vitamins, a ginger shot & go through my records/rekordbox so I am prepared. 
Ahead of a production/writing session, make some sort of herbal tea, write down what/who is making me feel inspired at that time, make sure I plan regular breaks and get locked into the zone.

Landing in for a much welcomed instalment to the CommaCast Series, L Daze (she/her) brings the psychedelic goodness for episode 78.
Starting her journey behind the booth in Birmingham via collective Selextorhood, now based in London, L Daze has been shelling out masterful recent sets for prestigious names such as Goddezz, Aquatic Formations, Whomp and Rhythm Section. Drawing inspiration from the 90's / early 00's trance and prog era, this talented selector combines old-school hypnotic sounds with the paced up state of modern dance floors. This hour long mix for us represents just a taste of the sheer class L Daze has when it comes to crafting absorbing story telling through tripped out grooves and mind melting sonic atmospheres. Superb stuff!

Active on the Belgian and European nightlife for 14 years now, as a DJ, DC crafted his sound into something pretty diverse: house, new beat, 90’s wrong speeder or percussive beats, no boundaries. It was the time you could do that on the Sonar webpage, too. I was very sad, if these archives go off, for me it was like being in heaven.

I don´t know the exactly year of that live session anymore from Cobblestone Jazz. I think it was around 2003 and so outstanding if i heard it at that time, more than 10 years ago.

I don´t like their newer productions that much, for me that live session is the real one Cobblestone Jazz.
