Recorded in close proximity to the critically acclaimed ‘Delusive Tongue Shifts…’. TIBSLC distills their sferic debut into a crystal clear, hypersensitive semblance, gliding amorphously just above the dappled phosphorescent landscape of its sibling LP. 

Occasionally dipping a translucent limb into temporal realms, eight homonymous tracks slip seamlessly into each other's liminal space with simultaneously anaesthetising and stimulating effect.

TIBSLC - Hypertranslucent(sferic009.5)[Preview]

MBE Series founder Giovanni Napolano continues his research of the Mediterranean, offering up his own personal Porta Del Mediterraneo.

Unfolding along two sprawling 15 min sides, Napolano stitches threads of chopped & screwed folksong with a discrete dub strategy, seamlessly leading the mind down labyrinthine ginnels of his imagination in a sort of uchronic regression session where the ghosts of the past inform the present. In the process it humbly speaks to Naples’ position at the frontier of the current migrant crisis, and necessarily takes a standpoint against Italy’s resurgent, nationalist fascism, revealing the beauty and energy of its indigenous mixture of peoples, rather than erecting borders between them. 

Taking his native Naples as a locus of Mediteranean culture, Napolano plunges the port city’s palimpsest of energies embedded by successive waves of Greek, Northern African & Eastern migration to discover an underlying, rhizomic connection and commonality linked by dub and hip hop as a contemporary iteration of folk music. 

Under its titular, mythical metaphor for the fall of Babylon, and usage in Rastafari culture, ‘Le Macerie Di Babilonia’ imaginatively examines a sense of self via a historic lens, drawing on Napolano’s upbringing in the chaotic port city and his autodidactic research into the rich mosaic of Napolitan heritage, to model how a folk class solidarity and shared character, with its own rules and rituals, has emerged from its syncretic milieu. 

Variously a treatise on provenance; an impressionistic tale of the European north meets a global south; a dub-abstracted, allegoric, ethnomusicological collage; ‘Le Macerie Di Babilonia’ is a fascinating and immersive listen that presents its maker’s dilated world view at its most mesmerising.

Mind Dance return with the second volume in their ‘Mystic Minds’ VA series. Launched last year as a way to continue the strong collaborative nature of the electronic music underground, each installment will shine a light on local Australian talent and their cross-continental contemporaries.

Bartosz Kruczyński, also known as artist Earth Trax (@earthtraxonline), is arguably among the leading names in Poland’s current electronic music scene. Based in Warsaw, his music is deeply emotive and explores a wide-ranging sonic palette that is complemented by well-defined artistic concepts. He has already featured on labels including Phonica Records, Growing Bin, Into The Light and Shall Not Fade –with whom he released his acclaimed debut album in 2020–.

His Lapsus release 'Closer Now', takes a different trajectory to his previous album 'The Sensual World' [Shall Not Fade, 2022], fundamentally an energetic and high tempo club record. In contrast, 'Closer Now' focuses on fresh and disparate ideas, with tracks that could typically be classified as more unrestrained B-sides that deconstruct sounds aimed at the dancefloor.

‘Closer Now' is influenced by liminal spaces and cultivates surreal and dreamlike qualities. Conversely it also possesses a sense of strength and grit, highlighted by moments where electronic distortion bares its teeth. It is an album that  refers to both IDM and chill out rooms.

Selector and label head @willhofbauer is at the forefront of exciting club sounds in London. Heading up the Third Place label, he also co-runs the event series Co-Select which focuses on gender equality in the DJ world, curating the kind of b2b sets that everyone wants to see (for example, the sadly-cancelled-due-to-Covid Angel D'Lite b2b Local Group). Third Place is quickly becoming known as a destination for considered electronic sounds: it recently put out Sangre Voss's 'Expressions of a Mind in Slumber 2017​-​19', an intriguing project that saw him piecing together fragments of his sleep-talking over ambient, experimental sonics (and came out on a pillow-shaped USB stick). Will's own productions are gold standard too: think wonky, off-kilter beats with nods to rave culture and a smattering of breaks. He debuted on New York's HOMAGE Records with 'Who Wants To Be A Willionaire?' which enjoyed a Desert Sound Colony remix on the flip. Support for his tracks has come from Bradley Zero, OK Williams and Moxie, and Ben UFO spun his 'Where Did All The Hay Go?' during his Club Quarantäne session, the duck quacks and farmyard animals he threw into the track sending listeners into a frenzy. His Dummy Mix is a reflection of his broad tastes, with Colombian mysticism sitting alongside wonky 2-step, psychedelic house, twinkly textures, a slamming Breaka tune as well as two of his own productions. "I put this mix together in the basement of my house, and (after a few takes) mashed a few tracks I thought sounded okay together!" he says, "Including some shameless self-promotion of some of the tracks from my latest release, some recent Bandcamp buys, and all-time faves."
