I spent a couple of afternoons re-setting up my double bass, radiassing the bridge and all that jazz. I just wanted to play something soulful afterwords and this is what happened.

I sampled the clicks and whirs of four of my film cameras; the Lomo Lubitel, the Smena Cosmic Symbol, the Diana F  and the Action Sampler. Around 6 months ago I recorded the mechanical clicks and whirs of 4 old film cameras to use in my music, and uploaded the sounds to share freely with other artists. The sample pack spread across the internet and in the last few months I’ve received loads of encouraging emails from musicians, app designers, and film makers who have used the sounds in their work. It’s been great to hear from all of you. 

Because of the obsessive collector that I am, this first video didn’t scratch the surface of my film camera collection, and there were a few beautiful sounding cameras that I hadn’t recorded, hence this second collection.

Does the world need these samples? No. A bit of an overkill? Definitely. But kinda fun? Oh, yes.

The film camera’s I’ve sampled for this second collection are:
A Lomography La Sardina (8 Ball edition).
A Lomokino 35mm manual video camera.
A FED 3 rangefinder with an Industar N-61 L/D lens.
A Zorki C rangefinder with an Industar 22 lens.
A Holga 120TLR medium format, twin lens reflex camera.

When I started this solo project I vowed to myself that I wouldn’t get bogged down with release schedules, deadlines, marketing campaigns and all of the other stuff that You Are Supposed To Do when releasing music to Grow Your Audience, Aide Revenue Generation and Create Space In The Already Crowded Music Marketplace. Because I really don’t care about all that stuff. I care about music, I care about creating it in an environment that is healthy for me and my family.  I care about sharing it with people for whom it’ll mean something. And if you’re reading this hopefully that’ll be you.

So last night I was a Dad. I took my son swimming. Ate some cold Domino’s pizza with him. Got the kids to bed. Watched some Friends re-runs. Opened the door to the Tesco delivery man. Chatted to my mum on the phone. Uploaded an EP for release. Had a hot chocolate and went to bed.

Marco (aka. Empolitron) and I have been trying to collaborate for years, and we've just never had the time, but since his drastic, mid-pandemic move to Berlin a couple of months ago, we've been talking more regularly. A few days ago I sent some ideas I'd recorded on my Arturia Microbrute over to him, and today he sent this track back. 

I asked what he wanted to do with it and he said it kind of fits in with the new Disquiet project, so to post it on SoundCloud and see if it gets picked up anywhere.
