I've taken a little break from RP writing to finish a new instrumental on Rytmik! Recently, I finished replaying the story in which Xel'lotath is the main evil Ancient, from the timeless Nintendo Gamecube classic (well, to me at least). Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem!

Oh man, this has been one of the coolest survival horror games I've ever played. The sanity loss effects that TROLL you is just one of the things I never forgot, after finally finding my misplaced copy of it last week. Also to mention, an epic movie score soundtrack, a dark and adventurous story, various playable characters and some pretty good voice overs. The part in which he mentions about Xel'lotath's Lesser Guardian singing in his autopsy notes is what inspired me to make this track. I imagined the creatures having an eerie, echoing singing voice. 2 to 3 voices from a single one, that don't naturally or logically make sense. They don't even have heads, but they can make plenty of noise; chanting magic spells, singing, and shrieking!

The harpsicord sounding synth was something I added as an extra little touch during the second half. No percussion. I didn't want any!

Lesser Guardian's Song

I just finished this as I type up the description. This character, Ayaka Kamisato, from the Genshin Impact game is a pretty, kind, young lady samurai. She is fierce in a fight! She can move her blade pretty fast to cut into enemy monsters and bandits. I titled it after my nickname for Ayaka; Feisty Frosty Swordswoman, lol. She has some pretty good ice elemental skills, and can turn into frost when she runs. I could run on water with her, in which makes for faster travel than the Kaeya ice bridge.

I knew I wanted an eastern world sounding guitar for a lead part. Towards the middle, getting the notes nice and paced just right to 160 bpm was something I had to be picky about. Otherwise, the track's composition would've sounded very messy!

I knew I wanted reverbed, pretty, and floaty sounding arps, and I managed to produce that through what tweaking tools Rymik Ultimate had! I also love how I layered and eventually doubled the bass to those cool beats. Oh, and the beginning synth that sounds sorta like a reverbed harp? That's actually a tom, listed under the "world percussion" of instruments Rytmik has.

I look forward to putting this music to the showcase for Ayaka! It'll be great. :D

Feisty Frosty Swordswoman

I created this for music as background for a gameplay video I plan on doing towards one of my Genshin Impact party members, Yoiymiya. This was a big moment for me, to test her out in defeating an Eye of the Storm mini boss all on her own (hence the title)!

I love the whole groove of this. The synth pads and sequencers together made this sound reeeally nice!

Eye Of The Storm

I first heard this on the Rytmik cloud a long while ago. It had been sitting there in my list of instrumental works in progress for months, so, I decided to add onto this very chill hip hop vibe. After a bit of experimenting, I added onto what the talented artist Unkown had already started. 

He had left it out there for anyone to do something with, and so I wanted to give this a shot. (I should fool around more with the hip hop genre more. Not only is it fun, but a little challenging as well!)

Mellow Hip Hop (by SilverFox Jams and Unkown)

This track is something I finished for my next upcoming Genshin Impact showcase video: Xiangling's! This girl is more than just adorable, with some funny lines. ("Help! My dinner's attacking me!" "My favorite place is the chicken--I mean, the kitchen!") She can also put up quite a fight, along with her miniature bear sidekick, Gouba.

I know this gets repetitive, but it varies and transforms in places later on in the track. I wanted a techno instrumental that had a punchy vibe to it. (My original concept idea, a hip-hop and Asian style hybrid with swag--it just wasn't working out.) And now that I think about it, I'm getting Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack vibes from listening to this. XD Probably because I believe Xiangling is skilled in martial arts, not just with the her polearm.

I titled this track after one of the English voice lines for Xiangling when she unleashes her Pyronado attack, in which the entirety of her equipped polearm is on fire, and spins around her, or any one of 4 characters in an active party.

HeeeeeyYAH!

This project had been saved in the online Rytmik Ultimate cloud for months. I knew I really liked the leading melody in the beginning, and decided to add more and complete this track.

The bass and bass harmonies are so old-school video game music to me, while the leading melodies and back up harmonies sound like something you'd hear in ambient instrumentals.

It took maybe a few weeks to finish, at a gradual pace. I worked on the composition bit by bit, since I was struggling to come up with anything good for another Genshin Impact character showcase video, or any music at all. Relaxing With a Beverage

It's been MONTHS since my last upload! ^^; I'll just get right into the little story behind this track. The idea to first do just *a cover* of Ryan Higa's "Dog Step" track sort of came to me while I was rewatching some of my favorite videos from the nigahiga and HigaTV channels on YouTube. I was almost serious about it, and even attempted to start a composition, but it just did not go anywhere! I guess I wasn't in the mindset to put much into music making at all back then.

Weeks later, after finding out that Ryan streams and plays games with his friends at Twitch, I let him know about this cover idea out of amusement. He replied to my message, about it not being hard cover to do as he tried to recall how the main melody went. (Before he starts gaming, he spends some time just talking to people in the Twitch chat. Just want to make that part clear.)

Sometime later that day (yesterday as I type this), I decided to just do my own take of the instrumental, using the same main melody. The main melody is a bit different and it works pretty good. Most of everything comes from the composition I put together in the Rytmik Ultimate software! After opening up Audacity, I added some dog FX to add onto the track. Somewhere in the middle of this is a vocal sound from Ryan's miniature dacshund, Marley. It's just not "Dog Step" without him, lol. I put a bit of reverb on sound, too.

Towards the second half onward to the end are two FX I recorded, modified, and then inserted. Both came from an adorable black puppy. That high pitched squeak that sounds like a one-shot synth? You'll hear the weird and cute high-pitched sound the pup made, along with a "rrrrrrRuff" that I liked, and inserted. ...Is that a terrier, or a Pomeranian? I can't tell from the poor lighting.

There's a guy from Russia who has a YT channel known as Insane Cherry. He puts together covers of various songs using various sounds that animals make. Sometimes, he chooses to transform animal sounds to make them sound like pads, basslines, synthesizers, and beats!

I can relate to him a little as of now, after making that little synth one shot out of the unusual puppy sound. So, for anyone who'd ilke to try to produce cool and new samples of sounds for instrumentals; you could go on YouTube, and listen for any interesting animal sounds. lol

To actually have a bit of dubstep towards the end of the composition came as a last minute idea, in addition to modifying one of Rytmik synth sounds. Glad I thought of adding the dubstep snares and bass parts. I impressed myself a little.

Since a lot of Ryan's videos end with him saying, "Teehee", I did the same with a recording of my own voice. That was just one more essential thing I knew I wanted to put in there, other than the Marley sound.

EDIT: I recently shared and promoted this on Twitter and tagged Ryan. (I had to work during the weekend, so I used Twitter. Otherwise I would've gladly let him and the cool people in the chat know the remix has been uploaded online.) He saw that, and gave a like! Of course, I'd love to hear what he thinks of this track lol

Remix of Ryan Higa's "Dog Step"

I have Rytmik Ultimate, along with Rytmik Studio within my Steam library. After a long, long while, I decided to re-install Rytmik Studio instead of Ultimate this time. I wanted to try something new, and hopefully different.

I managed to accomplish both here.

The interesting beat and basslines I developed had grown and gone with the flow altogether with everything else added. Around the time as I was just starting the composition of this, I was tapping my foot or moving my head along to the rhythm--in which is usually a sign them I'm definitely onto something.

I really enjoyed putting this track together. It had also been some months before I last completed any music stuff, and I felt compelled to keep going last night to finish this. I just didn't want to stop, lol! It was a very similar experience to the time I was putting "Goblins Underground" together. (I'm still honored and thankful over this masterpiece as a front page feature at Newgrounds.com on December 9th, 2020.)

I'm not sure what the genre is for this instrumental exactly, so into the experimental category it goes! As I was thinking of how to compose and mix the music, I imagined this as a BGM for a dystopian city type of setting. The long reverb synth harmonies to me give off misery and dread among the unfortunate who live in this city that's being overrun by sociopathic, tyrannical rulers.

Yeah, I've been thinking about my ideas for RPG Maker games again, and wanted to get back to making my own soundtrack material for them. This track is a new addition!

I now have a new concept for a very interesting story-telling RPG adventure, so make that a total of three possible games I'd like to make. And I have a little problem on deciding which one I'd want to start on first. They're ALL interesting... but maybe I'll put the one with the dragon villain, other animal characters, and the idea of more than one ending. That would take the most work I think. It would take me the longest to figure out, let alone complete! I'm still so new to the RPG Maker software LOL, but I'll still make music themes for that particular game idea in the meantime.

Miserable City

In Rytmik Studio, you can tinker around quite a bit more than on Rytmik Ultimate. That gradual LFO flanger of a bassline I came up with is neat. This is a mixture of tinkering around with the EQ filter and panning.

The arp synth melody also has some LFO effects. I experimented and tinkered as much as possible, without making the composition messy. This was a bit tricky for me to do, since this was a whole different thing I've done. From start to finish, putting the track together took me a little over a week. This has been my first time messing around with LFO stuff on this software. I've been used to how Audacity's LFO/Wah-Wah worked, and it was really easy to apply to some of my own samples I recorded from a the Waspy LP VST I've used on and off.

The 8 bit notes; all I did was apply reverb and echo delay, and it fit in with all the other elements of this track nicely.

The percussion style is also new, and it's solid and cool rhythm. The tom drum bits. Oh, and the FX towards the end is based off of a pluck FX. I added reverb and delay onto that, not just with the little 8-bit element I inserted. I also put the third of 4 pluck FX in reverse.

I hope to keep experimenting and trying stuff out with the EQ filter in the near future. I can produce some fun sounding results with this feature!

Crazy LFO Time

A little ditty I created on suno.com, based on a true story that happened with one of my friends' cats. When I first met this adorable one, she was really shy of me at first. Not so much anymore! Her name is Pumpkin, and that is actually a picture of her! (It makes my vertical pic of her look like I took it at an odd angle though. A shame I can't rotate it online. Will fix this later.)

The cat to the right of Sam is of course his younger sister, Pumpkin! My friend Eisha's nickname for him is "Old Man Sam." But he isn't actually a senior cat, but I think it's because he reminds of her of what an old man is like.

She suggested a slow song for Sam, so I figured I'd have the Suno song maker A.I. do this song as a soft ballad type of style. (Also to note, the "as well as well as cute" is a typo, but it's nothing problematic to this adorbs song at all, lol.)
