𝗰𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 is a musical & digital art project. A trip in the heart of musical territory, hybrid and moving, a sensitive progress in Cotonou (Benin) by music and pictures.

The 8 tracks have been composed from field recordings done in 2013 in Cotonou and thanks to an artistic residency at Château Ephémère in 2015.

After the release of audiovisual work, cotonouenmusique have been performed live with Renaud Vercey (Vj) in Cotonou, Marseille, Paris and Clermont-Ferrand and declined with some photographic exhibitions in Liège (Belgique) and Clermont-Ferrand (galerie Grand Angle and during Clermont-Ferrand International Short Films Festival).

This album was still unreleased 7 years after.

Summer Disco Edits are simply desire to share music in order to do credit to two bands.

"Africa Africa" is a tune performed by Black Soul and originally produced by New York records label Beam Junction in 1976 (and released by Vogue in France).  
Black Soul was a disco group from Dakar (Senegal) and it worked in Big Apple with legendary Tom Moulton producer who executed mix of this track (thanks to Beat Electric blog for infos).
The work of Switch "Groov" Experience respects in large part the original (not much additionnal productions) proposing an instrumental longer mix with wah-wah guitar, funky brass and loud beat very closed to early 80’s disco house production.

For the second is it a travel and dig’s beautiful story. Switch "Groov" Exp. found in Cape Town couple years ago Juluka’s disco 12" produced by local records label Minc and released in 1983. Juluka was formed by Johnny Clegg and Sipho Mchunu. A saxophonist zoulou black guy with an anthropologist and singer white guy into south african society torn apart apartheid. And both made cheap disco music with a real humanity sense and ultra positive vibes. 
Here the 2014 version is only remaster work : a deeper bass, an equalization treatment to clear drums and brass. Just a tactful production touch.

Le remix en face B est signé Simbad. Ce prolifique producteur et dj français, installé à Londres, a déjà 3 albums à son actif, et plus de 200 remixes (pour Gonzales, Bugz In The Attic, Julien Lourau…). Pour Bon Très Bien, il propose un remix broken beats aux relents techno et dub… Deep & heavy !!

MORCEAUX CHOISIS is compiling unreleased, lost and previous tracks produced by french dj, sound artist and producer Switch Groove. 

What is the kind of music you could listen? Jazz infused sounds for sure. This period, between 2007 and 2012, was my jazz teaching days. Hours and hours of listening Art Blackey, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Marcus Belgrave, Doug Carn, Azymuth and a lot and a lot of hard bop, modal & spiritual jazz, jazz fusion or latin jazz. I learned music with deep listening sessions in order to understand and learn how rhythms, harmonies and melodies work.
I also produced music with sampling techniques and the ten tracks compiled are results of its learning.

I hope you enjoy it and it’s a big pleasure for me to share it with you.

It begins in electronic and cosmic jazz aesthetics until broken-deep-house arrangements with loud bass driven by arpeggio, spatial synths and echoes of the Mona’s voice.

Bozambo - Ole Mamam (Switch Groov Exp. 2016 Edit)

My first story with Pepe's Samba theme was the Cecile Mc Bee interpretation called Pepi's Samba. A jazz-dance tune released on "Compassion" Lp in 1979.
I discovered later the original track written by saxophonist and flutist Chico Freeman in his "Beyond The Rain" album (Contemporary rec., 1977) with a quintet composed by Hilton Ruiz (piano), Junieeh Booth (bass), Elvin Jones (drums) and Jumma Santos (percussion). 

I quote liner notes here : "Under an exchange program, the band went to Brazil. Before then, Chico had written the start of a piece but couldn't figure out what to do with it. It stayed in his mind, however, and finally took shape when, in Brazil, he met a young spirit in his teens named Pepe. [...] Jumma and Chico are heard at the beginning of Pepe's Samba, exchanging whistle sound and rhythms. From there on, the multiple layers of percussions textures, accents, and time-bendings make for a persistently stimulating transformation of the samba form into the full stream of the jazz experience."

I've used its jazz fusion structure to produce an electronic and house rework. Why the term of rework? Because this work is situated between an edit (less changes) and remix (with separed stems).
My desire was to respect the rhytmic & latin essence and to add electronic elements with drums kit, bassline and synths. As usual in my production moves the track in the last part to offer clearly a Detroit house horizon before the conclusion.

I hope to release it in 2017.
