In the late 90's and earlier 2000's, big hip hop and rnb beats from the US and other places would get recreated in Jamaican studios and then either get revoiced or remixed, with the most popular dancehall artists now doing vocals over str8 up hip hop or rnb riddims. These would get limited edition releases on 7" vinyl; most of these tracks are pulled from those vinyls. Somehow the hip hop producers/label owners did not seem to challenge their music being outright copied without license; i dont think that would still fly in 2023. Best example is R Kellys "Fiesta" riddim which I have played up n down New Mexico for over 2 decades now but only as the Jamaican relick on the Stonelove label with 14 K covering the R Kelly but more importantly booom tunes from Elephant Man & Merciless instead. Nearly a century ago, in the year 1920, the honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey prophesied:

“Look to the East for the crowning of a Black King, he is the Redeemer for the days of deliverance are near.”

In the spirit of the great ancestor, an army of Roots Reggae soldiers have organized and centralized in a musical tribute to our forefathers (and mothers) who have paved the way for Rastafari culture and Afrikan liberation theology as I & I carry the torch into the new millennium.

The "To Di East" Riddim, available on all digital music platforms as of April 6th, is the brainchild of the Jah-N-I Roots Movement in collaboration with the Bantu Nation Movement. Both collectives operate out of Boston, Massachusetts with seasoned musicians, Jahriffe & King MAS respectively, as the spearheads of each production team. The musicians responsible for this instrumental, infused with a celestial tone and vibration, are one of Boston's top musical ensembles known as Circadian Riddims. Many recognize the potency of the "American Reggae" music coming out of Hawaii and California, but this heavy one-drop Reggae release will give you a reason to look "To Di East".

In the opening number, Jahriffe teams up with Jamaican Reggae veteran Warrior King. Drawing upon the often quoted biblical verse "in my father's house are many mansions," the warriors cry out for "tolerance" and unity in these times of division and strife amongst nations.

The dub heavy sound of the project is due to the masterful mix provided by the skilled hands of Wadadah II of the D.O.V.E. Muzik recording label out of Chicago, Illinois. Emerging from this powerful musical camp, founded by Tzaddi Wadadah I circa 1983, 2 vital messengers are featured on this project by the names Kazayah & Ras I-Dre.

Kazayah sets the tone early on with her "mission" statement urging one and all to put aside "petty prejudices" and "come together" with a tone and delivery both hypnotic and captivating.

Ras I-Dre, a young fierce lyricist from Jamaica, then invokes the entire pantheon of Roots Reggae legends (past and present) in a tune paying homage to all who have maintained the vitality and integrity of this "Sweet Reggae" music throughout the years featuring vocal harmonies from Kazayah.

As usual, King MAS reaches into the ancestral realm as the "musical Obia man" and highlights one of the founding fathers of the Ashanti kingdom by the name Okomfo Anokye. "Can't Draw We Out" brings light to the sword that Anokye drove into the ground during his time as an Ashanti high priest in the 17th century. Anokye stated that "if anyone removes the sword, that marks the end of the Ashanti kingdom." The legendary sword, which remains unmoved & can still be seen in Kumasi today, inspired this musical tribute expressing solidarity between the people of Ghana and the children of the bloodline carried into the diaspora.

Finally, Jahriffe reveals more musical Mdu Ntr as he encourages one and all to "be who you come to be" and recognize your own divinity. "God Body" is followed by the "Spiritual Ancestor" dub mix by Wadadah II which any Roots Reggae practitioner would do well to add to their collection. As we move through the vernal equinox, the light of the sun rising from the east has overtaken the darkness enveloping the planet during the winter months. Just like the ever increasing power of the sun, look out for more heat from these Reggae warriors and light bearers ‘trodding’ from the east and chanting "To Di East".

Princess Kazayah- The Time Is Now [Roots Stepper Riddim]

Sgt. Remo, born Sergio Ortiz, was born in Juarez, Mexico. He is a Mexican-American reggae singer known in the U.S. and Latin America for his music that is focused on messages about self-empowerment and the uplifting of marginalized people around the world. He began performing reggae music in the early 2000’s and refined his talent with Brotherhood Sound System in New Mexico from 2005-2008.
The unlikely reggae singer, deejay Sgt. Remo cut his first single as a guest artist on Mister Kali’s Loving Loving in 2010. He came on the international reggae scene in 2012 with the EP Life is for Living which featured his first notable songs Thunder & Lightning, No Man Stranded, and Tell Me Who (produced by McPullish). The album was released on his own independent label Jah Yutes Entertainment (JYE) which had previously released only one album, Reggae SoulJahs Worldwide Vol. 1 the year prior.  The EP garnered modest attention and gave the artist a solid ground to build upon. It caught the attention of German producer Don Goliath, who invited Sgt. Remo to collaborate on the single Call on Jah in 2013.
A year later Sgt Remo released his first full album Give Thanks for Life and achieved his first international underground hit Rastafari Way. The album was well received on several markets but received the most attention in Mexico City. This opened the doors to a lasting music relationship with his native country. The 13 song album produced several hits for Sgt Remo including the title track Give Thanks for Life, Babylon is Burning, and I’m Free. The album was recognized by New York’s AIRM’s Top 30 Reggae Albums of 2014 and by Denmark’s Reggae Moods top 15 Roots & Culture Albums of the Year. 2014 also opened the doors for Sgt Remo to tour more aggressively touching down in many U.S. cities, Mexico, and even Japan. By this time Sgt. Remo had incorporated an aggressive video production strategy as part of his marketing formula releasing eight official videos for his most popular songs.
In 2015 he traveled to Columbia to perform for the first time and recorded a hit dancehall collaboration and video, Dale Play, with Columbia’s Haffid Kandela and Mexico’s Ras Levy. This would be a huge success for the 3 artists receiving good rotation in Columbia and Mexico. 2015 also saw the release of another important single Babylon Town featuring Leona De Etiopia and Ras Levy of Mexico City. This single was the beginning of an important relationship between the three artists which led to multiple collaborative efforts in the future. 
2016 saw the released of the album Sgt. Remo & Friends – Crucial Classics. The 14-track album had been in the making for over two years and included a cast of 17 guest artists and various producers from the U.S., Latin America, and Europe. The album, released on JYE, rendered several noteworthy singles such as Wisdom & Glory with Princess Kazayah, Road to Zion with Chile’s Manu Dread, Ram the Dancehall with Soulfiya, and Stronger in These Times with Belizean Nego Hights. Remo produced eight official videos to accompany this release keeping up his tireless video production. He also completed a two-month tour in promotion of the album, capping off the tour with a festival line up in Mexico City featuring many of the guest artists on the album. The event was held at Cultural Roots Reggae Club, the principal reggae venue in Mexico City.

Kazayah was born & grew up in the small city of Evanston that borders Chicago. She was born to two Jamaican parents making her a 1st generation Jamaican born in the United States. Currently attending undergradutae school at Northeastern Illinois University. She strives and believes in education. She grew up in the 7th Day Adventist Church from her youth and that has given Kazayah a deep spiritual essence in her music. She is used to singing at her church from she was a youth. After connecting with local producer Ras Wadadah II who has exposed her to original roots-reggae she has found a a deep love for the King's music. Her music is regarded as angelic when hearing her soft voice and her uplifting lyrics in praise of the Most High.
 
Busy in school, working a job and finding the time to be in the D.O.V.E. Muzik studio she is currently working on some of her first official works. Her aim today is to touch the hearts of many and point them to godward. She wishes to show the people a positive way to live and to look at life no matter what they are facing in life. Her music brings light, joy and most of all peace.
