Sully returns to Astrophonica for a celestial collaboration with young Manchester based vocalist Salo

Always one step ahead of the pack, Sully relinquishes the signature crusty Jungle breaks in exchange for crisp and steely, live sounding drums to provide the groove for a stripped back and crushed 808 bassline - a hi-def take on his iconic sound. This minimalist structure gives the foundations and space for Salo’s bittersweet vocals to take the lead with clarity and float off into the glorious twilight. Belgian beatmaker Marco Bailey’s musical footprint is as large as his career is long. For 35 years, he’s built a following and tried his hand at just about everything a DJ/producer can attempt: countless performances in every corner of the globe, collaborations, music labels, a radio show, a music festival, you name it. He’s a deft ear, a lover of longer mixes, through which he’s able to craft escapist stories that bridge musical genres and allow him to calibrate a crowd’s emotion in real time. His records too pull from a panoply of styles and reflect an ever-evolving universe of sounds that stretch from his earliest dabbles in techno (his big break was the 2000 release of his Play It Back EP on Carl Cox’s Intec) through to more modern renditions of club focused sounds. Hot off the press is his latest album ‘Nocturno’ (Materia, November 2023), a project that tentatively began some years ago and has unfolded at its own pace; there’s no need to rush after all, he’s planning on sticking around. His rich sonic palette graces the airwaves for Bassiani Podcast 203, two hours of pugilistic basslines and sonorous synths, monolith rhythms from this long-serving heavyweight.

Brazilian producer Marcal joins Rekids Special Projects series with a rumbling five-track techno release this September.

Releasing on labels such as Phobiq and Sam Paganini’s JAM, Marcal has been turning heads for some years now with regular support from iconic names like Len Faki, Adam Beyer, Charlotte de Witte, and more. Adding Radio Slave to that list, Marcal now joins Rekids Special Projects with arguably his most exceptional release to date.

‘Ainozama’ opens the package with pace as banging drums, offbeat clicks and a murky low-end lay the foundation for rave inspired screeches. ‘Cherry On Top’ is next with its metallic synths, pitter-patter percussion and scintillating atmospherics, leading into the relentless and undulating groove of ‘Heart Race’ which comes complete with sci-fi inspired bleeps. The final two tracks on the package see Marcal collaborate: firstly with Andc and Gabal on the high-octane, hypnotic and squelchy ‘Estado de Transe’; before Marcal teams up with Hosben for the twisted and rattling ‘Renoir’.
