Both Bryn and Maitreya are dear friends and treasured guides in our Ruhaniat family. 

Bryn, a mureed of Murshida Asha. has been serving the Ruhaniat Board of Trustees for many years and is the head of our Ruhaniat International Sufi Youth Council, administers the Ruhaniat Sufi Youth Scholarship Fund and is a beautiful singer. 

Maitreya, along with being a sufi guide, is a wonderful composer for emerging Dances of Universal Peace and Zikrs. He is a educator who has developed many creative methods to bring the principles of Love, Harmony and Beauty, along with concentration and meditation practice into the classroom. He is married and is the father of two beautiful girls.

I have lived in the woods, on the seashore, on the mountain tops. I have done laboratory research, and at this moment there is a sort of synthesis of these in my work in organic gardening. In fact I am about ready to leave here to conduct a summer school with emphasis both on Sufism and organic gardening. I feel and find a living Nature, nothing subjective, one in which both the mystic and the poet might accept. I do not wish to press this point too far, to assume a perfection in my outlook which would prevent those under my influence from seeing the Universe as a whole scientifically and mystically.

Rather than conceiving of Ziraat as a specialized area of interest or a contemplation for a sub-group within the Sufi family, contemporary global ecological conditions dictate, wholeheartedly, that a holistic understanding of Ziraat is essential for all categories of Sufis from new initiates to the most advanced members of our lineage. It is imperative that Sufism in the 21st century confronts the ecological challenge of maintaining an environment wherein the earth, air, water and fire are sources of our well-being.

Ziraat - Where the call of God meets the condition of the world.  Our Ziraat practice is two-fold: we dedicate ourselves to waking up to the realization of our interconnectedness, and as we do, our new ways of seeing, feeling and thinking are reflected in our actions.  Ziraat means holding in our hearts the harmony, sustainability and balance of the whole planet and bringing this awareness actively into our everyday lives.

Beloved Family Near and Far,

Sadly, we cancelled the in person URS Celebration in the Bay Area, which delightfully moves us to a Worldwide ZOOM URS Celebration ~ 51 years have passed since the earthly departure of our dearest friend, teacher, guide, and wisdom being Murshid SAM! 

He told us that his Message would be more and more widely received every year after his passing. When he passed he had about 160 mureeds, and now his influence has touched many thousands of seekers. 

Shortly before his passing he taught us, “The connection between the Murshid and the mureed is in no way dependent on one or the other being in the body”.

Join with Sauluddin, Fatima, Halima and Abraham, Devi and Iqbal, Maestro Allaudin Mathieu, original mureeds Ayesha and Colin Rognlie and others who will lead remembrance, stories and praise along with music and Zikr.

Originally a mureed of Murshid Sam, Taj joined with Pir Vilayat Khan and is the mother of Pir Zia Inayat Khan, along with two other sons, Nathan and Mirza. She is an eloquent and profound vehicle for the Message.

Many people have written with gratitude for the nearly two years of the Ruhaniat Family ZOOM presentations but have pointed out that I have never been a presenter and requested I do so. 

﻿Our Ruhaniat stream is filled with life changing gems and practices, with one Pillar being centered around the Breath. Breath is central to Life and central to our Lineage Practice.

I will do my best to share kernels of wisdom and methods to Awaken through the Breath.

We are very grateful to welcome back Jonathan, whose sufi name is Ahamed Muhaiyaddeen, a very dear friend and colleague who blends the heart of a sufi mystic with extraordinary activities for social justice and protection of the planet.

﻿As the world is experiencing the grim shadow of war, we welcome the wisdom of our dear friend who spends his everyday speaking to governments and institutions where decisions are often made. 

Importantly, he is a senior disciple of the great Sufi Master Guru Bawa Muhaiyaddeen, having lived at his feet in Sri Lanka for many years.

He is the President of the Global Security Institute, founded by Mikhail Gorbachev and California Senator Alan Cranston, to rid the world of nuclear weapons. Jonathan is an attorney, author and international advocate emphasizing the legal and ethical dimensions of human development and security, with a specific focus on advancing the rule of law to address international security and the threats posed by nuclear weapons.

Jonathan is the Senior Advisor and Representative to the United Nations for the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summits of Nobel Peace Laureates, and the Ambassador for Peace, Security and Nuclear Disarmament of the Parliament of the World’s Religions.

He and I are core members of the Universal Sufi Council which morphed into the Peace Pledge Pilgrimage Family. We have been on Pilgrimage together, in Greenland, in Assisi, in India …... to give the clarion call for Loving Kindness and Compassion to be at the core of human expression, showing that spiritual leaders, educators, scientists and politicians can all work together to further the cause of Love and care for the planet

Yarrow has been on the Sufi Path since 1981, where in Ithaca New York he fell in love with the Dances of Universal Peace. He leads Dances and Peace Choir in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Yarrow Nelson is a Full Professor of environmental engineering at Cal Poly University, where he does research and teaches courses on the environmental impacts of energy production. He studied Chemical Engineering at UC Berkeley and tried to change the system from within by treating air and water pollution from the oil industry. He then embarked on a 40-year career in research, first at Cornell University, where he got his graduate degrees, and then at Cal Poly. His main research has been on using bacteria, fungi and plants to clean up contaminated soil and groundwater, and on the environmental impacts of toxic trace metals.

Yarrow will share from his life work of protecting our ecosystems from human harm. He will also provide some clarity on the topic of climate change so that we can all have a clearer understanding of the problem and what we need to do about it.

Kara became an animal empath the first time she looked through binoculars at the age of eight. She has a degree in Zoology, Ornithology and Ethology (the study of animals in their natural habitats). She has worked as a Naturalist, Environmental Educator, and Wildlife Biologist throughout her career. Kara is an Award-Winning Author and Film Maker, teaching about the wonder and beauty of Interspecies Connections.

In 1997 Kara adopted Sunshine, a female Red-tailed Hawk who had been shot and could no longer fly free. For the past 25 years, they have spent countless hours presenting programs on Raptor Biology and the importance of Animals as Teachers.

Together they build a nest every Spring and tend it together. Kara has on occasion replaced Sunshine’s infertile eggs with chicken eggs and once with abandoned Red-shouldered Hawk eggs, to allow Sunshine the experience of raising young.

She will be sharing Sunshine with us on Zoom, and showing how much we can learn from living closely with another species.
