John Mayer made a surprise performance at Hotel Café, LA during the writing of his Born and Raised record in 2011.

'A Break In The Clouds' was a song in the works but never used. This is the only known recording of the complete track.

The lyrics for 'A Break In The Clouds' can be seen written on a typewriter during the Born and Raised segment in the documentary John Mayer: Someday I'll Fly'

Every Day It’s Your Birthday (Acousitc)

The new double single comes with the original unreleased acoustic version of the song, one of the ‘Unturned’ bonus tracks arriving with the vinyl release of “Stone On Stone” early in 2026.

The original version of the song is more sombre and melancholic with some lyrics different to the final recording.

It was recorded low-fi-live into a laptop using the built-in microphone. The gas heater fan whirrs in background. A mournful Vocoder echoes the vocal melody.
