“Age Of Finding Stars”

David Long and Shane O’Neill grew up together in Ireland and have been pals since they were six. They were in a band together as teenagers then they went their separate ways, Long to Into Paradise and O'Neill to Blue In Heaven. Both fabulous bands who put out a series of flawless albums. Into Paradise had all the delicious dark drama of Echo and the Bunnymen or The Sound while Blue In Heaven, who were signed to U2’s label before inking a deal with Island, brought to mind a jittery and adrenalized blend of Joy Division and the Triffids.
In the late 90s the two friends reconnected as Supernaut and now
they’re collaborating again and arguably making the most urgent and stirring work of their careers. Their new EP Age Of Finding Stars is a riveting blend of dramatic soundscapes juxtaposed with introspective lyrics and stirring vocals—it’s infectious and thoughtful and decidedly moving work.

This documentary explores the little known inspiring story of the New Irish Recording Company (NIRC), a groundbreaking recording company and record label dedicated to Irish contemporary classical music. Established in 1971 by Seamus O'Neill, Rodney Senior, and Darby Carroll, the NIRC undertook the ambitious mission of recording Irish classical music in Ireland during a time when the industry was dominated by global giants like Deutsche Gramophone and EMI. Operating on a shoestring budget, the NIRC defied the odds, producing around 20 full-length recordings that elevated Irish classical music to the global stage. Sadly, much of this invaluable work remains largely unheard and is now difficult to access. Produced and presented by Jimmy Eadie.

She's Lost Control (2007 Remaster)

The title Tuile agus Trá means Flood and Tide (or also Ebb and Flow) and comes from one of the poems set here by Doireann Ní Ghríofa. I have long worked with the astounding sean nós singer Iarla O Lionáird, feeling a kinship personally as well as musically, and through our shared backgrounds of growing up in large families in rural Cork. This is my first Fme working with the combined larger forces of voice with the symphony orchestra and I knew that it somehow had to pay tribute to the memory of my mother Mary Buckley, who passed away last year. I grew up singing sean nós and she loved to hear my own singing. This draws upon the melodic worlds of medieval Armenian hymn – Ur Es Mayr Im (Mother, where are you?) and sets text which has such poignant resonance for me: ‘I hear the echo of your voice too. You live, sFll, in the song of the shore; you are with us, both in the Fde's pulse and in our hearts’ twinned lull and gush.’ ‘Maireann tú fós, i gceol an chladaigh. Tá tú linn i gcuisle na taoide, agus i ngach tuile agus trá dár gcroíthe.’
