This track is called "The People" and it features the legendary Chuck D from Public Enemy. You can download it for free at our website http://goo.gl/9DWGVZ.

The idea for the song came from a couple of samples, and the track's vibe is earnest and has a pressing tone to it.  The lyrics are commentaries of our struggles and successes, our weaknesses and strengths... the experiences... and trials and tribulations we have faced as human beings, a race, and as individuals. Lyrically Chuck brings a sense of authority and urgency. The power in his voice demands your attention. With Chuck on the track this is a dream come true for us.

Originally "The People" was suppose to drop in June around the same time the Chuck D/Hot 97/Peter Rosenberg situation took place. We chose to hold off and not add fuel to any fires. Our next aim was for a Black Friday release. Coincidentally the Ferguson tragedy took place, and more recently the non-indictment verdict. Somehow this song was destined to be a part of something more than just dropping a joint.  We hope it will lend itself to something positive in these difficult times.

We created some merchandise for this song that is for sale (The People T-Shirt & Sweatshirt). Proceeds from the merch will be donated to two organizations: All Star Code and I Love Ferguson.

All Star Code is an organization that helps under served youth make their way into the tech industry.  We've been building, strategizing, and working with developers for the past year, and we understand the importance of education in tech. We have a music tech company that we'll be launching soon called Daisy (http://daisycollective.com/).  It's important that we have more people from our community and our culture involved in this space.  We just want to do our part in making that happen and ultimately help build the future of music.    

I Love Ferguson is a organization that's helping to rebuild the town of Ferguson, MO. We feel strong about helping and supporting the small businesses that have been affected in that area.

What happens when an Austrian rap producer with a history of more than 20 years in the game, teams up with some of his favorite MC's from the US? First of all, great music. But wait a second, who's that guy? Flip is a veteran producer and rap enthusiast from Linz, Austria who got addicted to hip-hop and its culture in the early 80's when he first heard joints by The Fat Boys and Melle Mel on Austrian radio. A couple years later, heavily being influenced by the sound of Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim and EPMD, Flip and a bunch of other rap-nerds founded the nationally critically acclaimed group Texta in 1993 and became the originators of the Austrian rap scene. Flip also has been organizing hip-hop shows in his hometown Linz since 1994 and started building connections to the US indie rap circuit since 2000. So as these connections grew, Flip began to record songs with the artists passing through and doing shows. Out of many tracks Flip recorded, he picked the best collabos for his "Reflections" album, with a line-up boasting artists from all corners of the US, like AG (of D.I.T.C.), Killah Priest of the Wu-Tang family, Elzhi, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, Edo. G, Kev Brown, LMNO, Tragic Allies and many more.

Flip's signature sound is deeply rooted in the classic boom bap tradition with thick and hard-hitting drums and chopped samples, but also incorporates synth sounds, deep 808 low end and unconventional song layouts that move away from the old two bar loop formula. Flip is also a DJ and record digger, and handled most of the cuts on his album himself. And yes, he is also an MC, just in case you wondered...

After putting out 7 classic albums with his legendary Austrian group Texta since 1993 and a solo album in 2010, plus crafting beats for various German, French, Swiss, US and Jamaican artists, Flip's music finally gets released for a wider audience and rap connoisseurs all around the globe.

As the Akrobatik cut in the outro track proclaims: "Dope beats, rhymes and cuts, so now what!" - this is pure, uncut, and raw rap music that has its foundation in the past but also takes a perspective into the future.

About Day Drunk EP
It’s the return of the non-fiction writer stranded in the made-up world. We last heard from Michigan’s Red Pill on his Mello Music Group debut, this spring’s Look At What This World Did To Us—a savage and sardonic diatribe against the modern condition.
 
In the interim, the former factory machinist turned his psychic bloodletting into a sustainable career. Things finally look up for the self-proclaimed “Leonard Letdown.” He toured the EU with Fashawn and Exile, spent the early fall on a 40 city North American tour with Murs, and forged a profound connection with a fanbase exhausted from the lies told to us by politicians, rappers, and ourselves.
 
Its immediate follow-up—the Day Drunk EP—offers a requisite counterbalance to the poison-tipped bleakness of its predecessor. If LAWTWDTU was the rap equivalent of Charles Bukowski’s Ham on Rye, the Day Drunk EP is closer to Notes From a Dirty Old Man. It’s slightly lighter and more playful, stocked with slick talk, wry one-liners, and enough liquor to drown even the most debauched barfly.
 
With production from Oddisee, Exile, Paul White, and Red Pill himself, the beats offer an almost psychedelic slant that blend seamlessly with Pill’s artful complaints. Whereas the last record seemed to sink into a permanent midnight of the soul, this one attempts to reconcile the inequities of life with our own ineluctable realities.
 
The first song, “What You Wish For,” finds Pill half-jokingly offering the advice to give up on work in favor of the 24-hour party. It’s not necessarily a call to hedonism, but rather a way to remind people to wake up from fugue states filled with false religion and Internet pseudo-wisdom.
 
There’s the greasy guitars and hard drums of “90s Money,” a sly love letter towards a vanished world. Pill calls himself a “loser like a Beck record,” a “fat Jesse Einsenberg"  a loose cannon drinking whiskey with two hands, listening to Bitches Brew, eating chicken vindaloo. That’s just in the first minute.
 
Despite the brighter beats and attempt to find levity in our woes, there’s still the searing fear and loathing that makes Pill so compelling. He compares himself to an unloaded gun, maligns the world that’s got him by the throat. He confesses his myriad anxieties, depression, and desire to write a happy song. Only Earl Sweatshirt can match Red Pill at their mutual ability to celebrate the isolated joy of never wanting to leave the house.
 
Maybe it’s the EP’s finale and title track that captures the contradictions at the heart of the music. It’s a eulogy to the summertime, a drinking song undercut by premonitions of doom, a reminder for us not to waste the days until our funeral—a toast to day drinking to forget our own collective pain.
