was at the spa yesterday. they had an aqua meditation room where the ripples of drips were projected/amplified on the ceiling. my partner thought the ripples matched the new age music but i thought it was just the brain forcing an arbitrary pattern. i was thinking about this project about sound waves bouncing off each other like ripples; and this is the sound i wanted to get across (couldnt record unfortunately, couldnt sneak phone in ..no pockets in the complementary robes)

i played the guitar thru podfarm with heaps of echo and delay all unsynced, not playing to a particular tempo.. following and ignoring the echoes variously / resolutely un-new age
then i put the recording thru izotope ddly to get more delays at different speeds

Disquiet Junto Project 0218: Sound Passage
The Assignment: Following the path of artist Kate Carr, explore sounds from a distance.

The artist and musician Kate Carr generously agreed to provide a prompt this week for the Junto.

Step 1: Consider the ways that sound changes as it travels across space, moving through specific human-built architectures and/or natural geographies. I live near Belfast’s major football stadium, and the roar that travels from the stadium, across the train tracks, up my street, and into my ears is a very different sound to the roar heard when standing in the stadium itself.

Step 2: Record a distant sound, and reflect on what frequencies have made it to your ears from the source, and which ones have bounced or decayed away.

Step 3: Compose a piece based on this recording, and your meditation on the ways its very journey to you has changed the sounds inherent in it.

Background: Kate Carr composes soundscapes based on field recording and non-conventional instrumentation to explore the relationship between people and place. Weaving together real and imaginary journeys , intensive explorations of sonic enclaves and the re-broadcast of sound in public places, her work is centred on both human and natural geographies. i had a heap of fx in ableton - ddly>podfarm2>feed me back>six string ambience>loop slippery
lots of echo, distortion .. 6 string ambience mulches things up a bit.. loop slippery added that beat

got some tonal elements from doing some extreme noise reduction in audacity (after the train had gone past, maybe a bird?) added reverb. 
in live 8 i played the sample through protoplasm, podfarm 2 (sine chorus, random chorus, stereo delay, echo platter, large plate reverb) and ozone imager. changing the octaves a bit. just a single improvisation recorded.
back in audacity duplicated the track pitched down an octave and faded in
mastered in audition

infinity⁷

I based the idea of this construction on thoughts of sample flipping, how a simple fragment could be twisted about to be something wholly new. Drums aside, this is entirely constructed from one sample, only further and further twisted as it runs through and into the second layer. A play of simplicity, but enjoyable too for that. An exploration of rhythmic relation and timing, groove over elaboration.

Mystic Sound Records is happy to present a new full-length album of the talented Russian producer Nikita ’Chronos’ Klimenko – “Friendology vol.1”. Friendology vol.1 – is a first part in a trilogy of collaborations with Nikita’s friends around the world during the last few years. Well-known names and new talents, which Nick has met on his way while travelling, are bringing new dimension of musicality and emotionality in Chronos sound.

Starting from shoe gaze rock through IDM elements & different ethnic cultures, to brave experiments with beatbox & classic music combined with strong downtempo spirit. Then, going through modern styles like trap and 4/4 chillgressive to trance vibes and evolving with space ambient as a great story ending. Approximately ten styles of music are combined here with sounds of a cello, a violin, a guitar, a bass, and vocals mixed with analog & digital synth algorithms.
