Welcome to episode 541 of the Everyday Junglist Podcast!

Episode 541 brings us a mix from talented Bristol dj and soon to label owner, ELL! 

ELL's mix blends the elements of Jungle Tekno and Jungle with effortless flow, featuring tunes, old, new, and unreleased, ELL comes correct with this one!! 

Let's meet out dj for episode 541, ELL:

1. Tell us about gigs and guest mixes you have coming up.

 I’ve got a monthly residency on Red Rebel FM, my all-vinyl mix I did for them just came out actually, so go check that out. We’ve got a few Elysium events coming up, To The Moon on the 26th of April, where all the profits are going towards a domestic abuse charity called Next Link and an event at The Crown on the 31st of May (TBA), we’ve got wicked DJs coming for those so I’m excited for that. We’ve got a couple of sets on the horizon as Interlude (@interludebristol), we’re playing a wax set for Kesh at A Proper Jungle Night, which is quite a mad moment for us, I noticed I had a crumpled up flyer on my wall from one of his previous parties at Black Swan last year that we used to religiously go to, so it’s crazy to be playing for him next month.

2. Tell us about Elysium.

So me and the rest of the Interlude guys started Elysium in September after becoming kinda bored with the electronic music scene here in Bristol. We noticed the same genres and (largely white male) DJs being booked for events over and over, so thought we’d set up something different. We massively try to push lesser-heard genres such as Broken-Beat, House, Techno, Free Tekno, Gabber, Jungle Tekno, Dub, Funk, Acid House, Breakbeat Hardcore etc. We meticulously curate our lineups to take audiences on a journey throughout the night from slower genres like Broken-Beat and Dub, to Jungle, Techno or Gabber to close. We’re also really committed to booking women, POC and non-binary people, it’s really important that grassroots events, such as ourselves, push equality in the scene and we hope other promoters can follow in our footsteps. We love giving new DJs opportunities, it’s sick to see the audience loving their tunes and I hope we can give them the confidence to believe in themselves. I know how hard it can be as a woman in this scene, even to this day, I struggle to feel confident in my ability, so it’s nice that I’m able to be a familiar face to people just starting out. I love putting on parties and it makes me happy to see people loving the music we put on, our events wouldn’t be what they are without our community and I wouldn’t be able to do it without Luke and Ruben so big love to them <3 

We’ve got a massive announcement over summer for our biggest party yet, it’s gonna be wicked so keep an eye on @elysiumbristol for that!

Oh, also we’re starting a record label called Screamin’ Girl Records (@Screamingirlrecords) so watch out for that, possibly featuring a debut release from myself and interlude too…

3. What would you call a male ladybug?
I honestly don’t have a clue, manbug? Mrbug? Haha. Thanks for having me, had a lot of fun doing that mix!
