The work 'The day begins with a loud boom' interrogates the manner and extent to which we are defined by our relationship to the physical environment, and the cultural import of the tools and techniques of production. Its imagery derives from a series of residencies in industrial sites, focussing notably on diamond cutting and the fabrication of automotive glassware. It follows the trajectories of the materials subjected to those processes, and presents the traces of human intervention of which those materials are both the object and the repository.

The succeeding reiterations of the ostinato the day begins with are treated graphically by its progressive effacement, evoking the tension in assembly line work between repetition and linearity, accumulation and exhaustion, trace and erasure. Such attrition is equally conveyed by the harsh, impassive, and architectural qualities of both the images and the music which accompany the text. The latter notably deploys a range of insidious effects, from the marriage of dissonance and unsettling rhythm evocative of the competing cycles of multiple industrial machines, to sensual and reassuring sonorities which are contaminated by their contrast with the harsh acoustic aesthetic elsewhere.

WE ARE SO BACK!!!!!… on Area3000 for season two of The Rush Hourrrrr ( ˘ ³˘)♥ We’ll be kicking things off with a banging start to the year as we welcome garage powerhouse Sophia Violet into the studio all the way from the UK.

✮✮✮ You may recognise Sophia for being a member of iconic group Girls Don’t Sync making waves across the music scene globally; or her highly anticipated single ‘Want Me’ in collaboration with Skeptic currently making the rounds. Both within UKG and dance culture as a whole she has solidified her name as an essential to any good lineup.

We had the chance to chat with Sophia just before she began her first ever Australian tour with Girls Don’t Sync - discussing all things from life as a touring artist, her project Type One Community and the importance of empowerment women bring to each other across the scene.

Sending lots of love to our girl as she is now back home in the UK touring with the help of lab54 celebrating the upcoming single release with Skeptic ✮✮✮

Short Attention Records makes a welcome return here with a new drop of wax that fits the label head into its roots in deep techno sound worlds. This one takes the form of a various artists' EP crafted with an intake feel for cosy floors and who better to kick off in that vibe than the revered Lawrence whose 'Hawser' is a groovy and melodious track. Next, New Jersey don Joey Anderson sets a slow and deep tone with 'Human Kind' which has moody vocals, and Japanese artist Takuya Matsumoto follows with 'Three Flowers', a more potent and driving cut with a fine acid bassline. Rounding off the EP is 'Desired Spring' by R/K, a loop-driven deep house gem designed for both listening and dancing.
