Info: Pond Life Records returns with the debut EP from label founder, Robi, entitled ‘Overnight’ and comprising three original modular fuelled, atmospheric compositions.

Pond Life Records was launched in 2018 and across the past five years has slowly unveiled high quality material with an aesthetic that leans towards deep, hypnotic and jazzy while meandering through a variety of genres, from House to Techno, Downtempo and Nu Disco, while keeping an encompassing thread of musicality throughout. Here, the label offers up the debut EP from label boss, Robi fka Beluga, the project sees him employ his modular set up to create a project that’s emotive, delicate and laden with subtle intricacies.

Opening the EP is ‘Overnight’, laid out across four minutes with choppy vocal chants and crisp organic drums intertwined with an amalgamation of fluttering synth melodies, mesmerising strings, dubbed out stab sequences and a murky sub bass groove throughout. ‘Muscles’ follows next and shifts focus towards complex percussion, serpentine atmospherics, weighty low-end pulsations and modulating tones before ‘Cobra’ rounds out the release and dives deeper via multilayered ethereal synth textures, dreamy bass drones, gritty dubbed out stabs and a stripped back, saturated rhythm.

Otik returns to the 3024 imprint with “Cloud Runner”, his third release on the influential label. The music on this EP is loosely based on the musical interpretations of the London-based producer’s favorite movies, an approach he previously explored while introducing his audience to the music from his debut album “Cosmosis”, which was released late last year. This EP once again shows Otik’s versatility and breadth, with tracks spanning charting various BPMs and moods while still maintaining his signature aesthetic.

Londoner @ddanvers brings three new turbo-charged hardware jams to Scuffed Recordings on his ‘Living In The Sends’ EP.

Danvers’ productions have been building pace over recent years and he has gained a reputation for his intricately-produced but high-octane club tracks, both as a solo artist and as part of the duo Kassian.

As a solo artist, Danvers has built a diverse catalogue, appearing on labels like Fantastic Voyage - where he released his debut album ‘Gently Ascending’ in 2022 - as well as Holding Hands, SlothBoogie, and CoOp Presents. As part of Kassian, Danvers has released on such labels as K7, Shall Not Fade, 17 Steps, alongside running their own label Faux Poly.

On the ‘Living In The Sends’ EP, Danvers expands his explorations into hardware-focussed production, describing the release as ‘experiments crossing in between different genres’. Across the EP’s three tracks, Danvers darts between breakbeat, electro and UK techno influences, from the lurching opener ‘Cascade’ to the blistering breaks of ‘Sprites’, and finishing with vocal-led roller ‘Jus’ Fine’.

Danvers - Living In The Sends EP (Previews)

London producer VERE arrives on excess with his debut project Perpetual Motion - a punchy four tracker focussed on all things percussive. 

Ominous opener ‘Trace’ demonstrates VERE’s use of space and bass perfectly, as an eerie sample summons punchy drums through haze and mist. ‘Not So’ features a 1-2 punch of thick bass and heavily accented percussion, a banger primed for dancefloors with enough resolve in the breakdown to stop and take a breath. 

Title track ‘Perpetual Motion’ cranks up the intensity with a barrage of percussion ricocheting around the high end while a futuristic gliding bassline holds down the low section. This contrast in sound carries through the track and Robin Wylie’s punchy mastering has us itching to hear this on a decent system. ‘Midnight Blue’ finishes the EP in similar style, building the ambience with perfect pacing until a cutting 4x4 drop provides a refreshing mode switch.
