Liam Doc, a staple in the Scottish scene and resident at the Glaswegian institution Sub Club, brings a record of throbbing techno minimalism to Shall Not Fade. Having rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names in Scottish dance music from Denis Sulta to Big Miz, Doc’s sound is cool, collected and distinctively UK.

Energetic A1 ‘Jamie Said It Was Wicked’ combines earworm distorted bass triplets with atmospheric steel drums, its strong rhythm dragging you into ‘Icarus’ which puts on the breaks in a silky laidback house roller. Doc turns up the nostalgia for A-side closer ‘2008’; the wide bassline giving a classic noughties feel but with touches of chillout room memories in the smooth piano stabs. On the other side, percussion dominates. ‘Looks Like a Mad Place’ is proper eyes down business, a drum-heavy uk techno number with dubwise bite. More playful percussion on the hard drum hybrid power of ‘Thyme Bridge (Part II)’, but the crowning jewel of the record is the closing track, ‘A.S.M.R (I’m Trying)’. Delving further into pivotal forward club sounds, Doc creates a darker spin on uk funky elements with an ominous, vibrating bassline and ear tickling percs. The EP builds from a ravey sound palette into dark and raw british techno at its finest, proving Liam Doc is a master of his craft.

GAB MIX 032 welcomes one of our favourite UK crews, @kulturacollective . Through a consistent stream of high-quality releases, compilations and an enormously varied mix series, launched more recently, the Manchester-based imprint have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the UK’s electronic community. Pushing a more experimental take on breakbeat, electro and UKG styles we can’t wait to see what Kultura have got in store for the rest of 2021. 

For their GAB guest mix Kultura have stuffed an incredible range of music into 70 mins. Featuring UK funky, big juicy breaks, electro and even closing with some juke and footwork, this isn’t one to miss.

Next up on the Westival Selects Series we've got avid Jungle heads, Local Group.

Reconstituted from chewing gum, half-empty baggies and DNA scraped off of a thousand worn dance floors, Local Group are LMajor and Corporeal Face. Residents at UK festival Field Maneuvers, where they channel Hardcore, Breakbeat, Garage, and Jungle into an atemporal rave sound, their 2018 ‘Laser Dome’ EP was a homage to the Sputnik tent they play in at FM.

Following releases on Corrupt Data, Secret Rave, Human Concrete Block and Dead Trax, up next they've got a four-track EP on 1Ø PILLS MATE that comes with a remix from Angel D’lite, with the favour returned by a Local Group remix on Angel D’lite's forthcoming EP on Ritual Poison.

We're absolutely delighted to have these guys on the series, and even more excited that they'll be closing out one of the nights at Westival this year. If there was anyone to encapsulate The Dome sound, it would be these lads.

For GAB MIX 035 we’re absolutely delighted to present the one-and-only Mixtress! Pushing for the hardcore agenda down in London, Mixtress has been absolutely killing it this year with stunning mixes on FOLD, Threads, Netil, 1020, Aaja, Subtle, Mode, foundation fm, Reprezent, Rinse and a recently-launched residency on Balamii. As well as this, Mixtress continues to inspire and support a range of female and non-binary DJs and producers through her highly admirable work as Sisu’s creative lead. 

In her guest mix for GAB, Mixtress showcases her eclectic collection with an outstanding mix dominated by electro but featuring drill, grime, breaks, bashment, jungle and hardcore - pretty much everything under the sun! 

We’re extremely gassed that Mixtress herself considers her GAB mix as one of her all-time favourites. Booked in at a range of mad events this summer, including Das Booty’s takeover at Venue MOT Unit 18, promoters best be hitting up Liquid Paradise to secure bookings with one of London’s freshest DJs! Word on the street is that Mixtress may even be making an appearance in Leeds sometime soon!

For your sake, we hope you’re up for a challenge. An outback jungle where distorted sonics and fast-pace rhythms are the sustenance on offer. On the surface, our dusty jungle appears a lovely haven for every head in the land.

What’s the matter? You look a little ‘Stressed’. ‘Nervous’ even. Could it be that persistent, spine-shattering sub wub? Catches up with you, doesn’t it? Add in an unrelenting 303 rendered rich in resonance. Feeling it now, aren’t you?

How about that in the other direction? Soul-shaking kick thuds, ear-pricking gated vocal pads, tenacious, shifting arpeggiated synths. You’d best do as you’re told and “Put the drums On The Shelf” if you know what’s best for you. See that over there? See, it belongs to the boss. He doesn’t like it when people aren’t Dancing around his Stray Ute. Sure, the jungle birds inside might sound cute but you'll change your tune when it’s coming nearer. Gaining velocity. Gathering steam. Barrelling toward you. Don’t you worry. Or do. Just be ready. Ready for drums befitting a true jungle. Ready for sliding and prodding bass notes; each more paint-peeling than the last. Ready for overdriven percussion smashes; each more sinister than their predecessors. Reverb-bathed idyllic cuts, striking hybrid synths. Really think you can handle it?

Maxy Cozy has other ideas. His euphoric chords will lull you. Trick you. Make you think the belligerence is behind you. Wrong. You’ll be brought back to earth with a smack in the mouth for thinking you’re capable of managing. Long bass notes fortify, stabbing with malice. Innocent-seeming sounds turn instantly unforgiving. You didn’t think you’d get through it without a scratch, did you?

Fly By Night welcome PanicMan (@panicman1993) to the roster with his track Raw Hits as part of the FBN005 compilation. Following up his killer debut EP on @omertarecords0224, which garnered support from Emerald & Jossy Mitsu on Rinse amongst others, PanicMan brings his stripped back breaks-centred approach to FBN with Raw Hits. Choppy breaks and a pulsating sub contribute to a solid track from the Brighton-based producer, who is emerging as one to watch for 2021.

Fly By Night are excited to announce FBN005, an 8-track V/A with all profits going to Centrepoint, a charity which supports over 14,000 homeless young people every year providing housing and mental & physical health support. Locked Up contains 8 exciting producers ranging from breakbeat, electro & bass, all contributing their interpretation of a year being spent locked inside. From artists ranging from Birmingham to Brighton, Angers to Copenhagen, the V/A is yet another strong release from Fly By Night to round off what has been a long 2020 in which the label have been picking up the pace.

This is Sticky 004: Asquith/Tañ - Two amazing DJs sharing both sides of the cassette. They have both chosen the full proceeds of this tape to go to Magic Breakfast, here is what they do in their own words: "We are a registered Charity Aiming to end hunger as a Barrier to Education in UK schools through the provision of healthy breakfasts to children living with food poverty"

UK based producer Hugo Massien has been slowly but surely making a name for himself over the past few years. Metamorphosis marks Hugo’s debut LP on the E-Beamz Record label.

Having first released in 2014 he quickly built a legion of fans who absolutely loved his bass heavy breaks, sometimes wonky beats, trance rave, and acid tinged sound. By 2018 he had released a winning string of EPs on various imprints including XL Recordings, Keysound, 17 Steps, Unknown to the Unknown and of course E-Beamz.

He now drops his debut album Metamorphosis which brings together all the best elements of Hugo’s creativity into one cohesive release.
