After an amazing few years Lis Sarroca continues to fire on all cylinders in 2022, and is taking her Maai Records imprint with her. Marking the third release on the label is a classy two tracker from the Barcelona based talent, within the “Driven” EP you can expect premium shades of breakbeat, house and electro spread across the pair of tracks.

Fresh from the success of their anniversary VA 3 Years of Happiness, which saw the likes of DJOKO, B From E, Ricky Razu and Jesse Bru feature on the release, emerging French label Happiness Therapy returns with a four-track offering from @basstoast. Obnoxious Groove acts as the Brussels artist’s maiden full EP on the imprint, marking a major milestone for him and Happiness Therapy alike.
@basstoast is the Belgium-based label owner whose Cosmic Breeze Records imprint flies the flag for contemporary European house music. His dealings with Happiness Therapy dates back to 2020, when he first landed on the label’s flagship Happy House compilation. Since then, the relationship has flourished leading to the release of his first full solo EP on the 3rd of June.

An artist who will need little introduction amongst our seasoned followers, Bogotá producer Felipe Gordon is back with his seventh label release. Natural Born Climber EP sees Gordon continue in the same jazz-inflected vein as his previous EP, boasting his talent as a multi-instrumentalist and dexterity in combining textures to make an infectious whole.

The EP starts as it means to go on. ‘The Love’ cruises along an irresistible groove, oozing sex appeal and at times tickling the ears with a classy jazz piano. ‘Da Ghent Life’ is about funk. A bass guitar meanders beneath skippy percussion before giving way to a soul-stroking saxophone breakdown before ‘More Than Grateful’ follows suit, maintaining the uplifting tone. Finally, the title track sees the EP at its most ravey. It’s impossible not to move to ‘Natural Born Climbers’ ’s piano-stab melody and Detroit-inspired vocal chops.

"Marc Brauner makes his return to the label, this time collaborating with fellow Berliner, Ulrich Harrison - better known by moniker Tender Games - on five summertime sweeteners.

These two producers are no stranger to working together, co-running their own imprint, Nostalgics Records in their home town of Berlin. This collaboration then came together naturally, and represents the ideal blend of Marc Brauner’s syncopated rhythmic tendencies, and Tender Games’ musical antecedents in soul music and penchant for instrumentation.

‘Concrete Jungle’ epitomises this fusion: a two-step rhythm carries a deep bassline which cruises beneath a blissed-out trumpet melody. ‘You Keep Me Up’ and ‘Listen’ are skippy old school bangers, the former complete with anthemic piano stabs à la Manix and Inner City and the latter peppered with blithe whispers of a saxophone. ‘It Makes Me’ follows suit, substituting hi-hats for a focus on funk-inflected low ends before the UKG-leaning ‘Violation’ draws things to a close with MC vocal chops and bass womp ruffage."
