Following up 2 brilliant VA releases that we already shared with you here, Paul Wise's label We're Going Deep celebrate a 3rd release with another 4 track EP comprised of cuts from equally brilliant artists: Moy, Rekab, Garrett David and Moody Waters. 

The opening shot is fired with the unmistakeable"Ouroboros"  from Moy: a finely crafted slice of robotic acid funk enticing you into the wilds and waves of moody 303 action as machines collide with precision accuracy. Bringing you back to a calmer vision and seas of tranquillity, Rekab aka James Baker’s “Summer Dreams” demonstrates just how blissful ambiences and slow paces in these testing times can soothe the soul. 

Leading Side B, fans of Chi-town grooves will not be disappointed with Garrett David’s “Cruisin Through”. The Smart Bar resident and Gramaphone Records employee is no stranger to sumptuous jackin’ edged house jams packed full of bouncing beats. Blending an irresistible rump funking groove to synth-led melodics that build and build, the total sum of these parts will not fail to get you out of your seat. Signing off in style, Moody Waters takes us into hypnotic house territory as low slung beatdown vibes meet mysterious atmospheres and vocal fx, emerging from the haze of that 5am smog that all too often glazes your inner mind.

The pair behind Broken Homes are Thoma Bulwer and his muse, Pops. They have written this album together over the past couple of years through summers of love being inspired at festivals like Houghton and Freerotation; and dark winters at spots like FOLD, the Cause, the infamous Lion and Lamb, fabric and lots of natwy underground warehouses and boats around Hackney Wick.

The eight track album has all been given a 90s and retro flavour at Thoma’s TB analogue mastering studio and the pair expressed this in the recordings as a journey-of-genres. From garage, UKG, house, electro, jungle, minimal, bleeps, rave and breaks the tracks inspiration and electronic music culture is soaked up and slapped back out through the tape machine. Any true London raver would find it hard not to shake-a-leg to this!

The opportunities were endless, a plethora of sprawling pathways were laid out before them and as they stood perched atop the hillside they questioned and queried which one they might take. Only one path would lead them all the way back down to the foot of the mountain, up amidst the clouds they were happy and peaceful looking down at the world below and all its wonder. It was time for them to take a second and make their choice. Who knew that to choose one might be so hard... 

Yosh is set to release a new EP on Distant Horizon, a fun filled garage and rave inspired affair destined to roar on big systems and blast in the speakers of small cars. This one is an ode to everything we love.

Byron the Aquarius (aka Byron Blaylock), an accomplished keys player as much as he is a producer, has a deep love for the organic side of music. This shines through in his creations, back to his debut EP in 2007. More recently, Blaylock’s skillful jazz beats have found a home on the one and only Jeff Mills’ Axis Records. From his birthplace in Birmingham Alabama, Blaylock has grown into an international figure of acclaim for his explorative compositions. 

Already having two successful EPs with Shall Not Fade under his belt - most recently marking the labels’ 50th release with What Up Doe? Vol.2 - Byron the Aquarius returns for a gorgeous double LP. Expect the smoothness of deep house, melodic instrumental hip hop production of the J Dilla creed along with tight jazz pieces.

The New Beginning LP showcases range and expertise from the off, exploding with pulsing discordant jazz in ‘Amaya’s Voyage’. Psychedelic g-funk is the MO of ‘Smoke One For Huckaby’, before a B-side milieu of jazz and hip hop reminiscent of Guru’s Jazzmatazz. The album settles into a deep groove across its C-side, the highlight of which is the percussive workout of ‘Underground Was Black’, complemented delicately with dazed pads and buoyant but smokey lounge jazz sounds in ‘Cosmic Jazz’. Off kilter hip hop shines through in ‘Last Time We Gonna Do This’ and its eclectic sound palette, then we are blindsided by the heavy electro distortion of ‘The End Of The World’. The record closes with a collaboration of the genres explored throughout, pieced together into the pumping ‘Lost People of Tron’. The album feels like a lap of honour around all the influences in Byron The Aquarius’ sound - it’s yet another artistic triumph.

Hot on the heels of two wicked releases on Lobster Theremin and SITU Records, London based producer Kempston Hardwick readies 4 bubbling cuts of summer jams with all the zesty twists of an ice cold radler on Distant Horizons.

Whilst his last releases on LT took a more UK-centred sound approach, DISTANT005 has you jumping on the first plane out of London and onto a white, sandy beach somewhere in the South Pacific. The skippy, bright beats of ‘Step With Me’ raise the curtain before the sounds of thes streets of Chicago take over on ‘Roxy’s Party’ - a classic cut of contemporary house that lends from the past while keeping one eye firmly fixated on the future.

‘Leonila’ sees Kempston take on a more experimental aesthetic; tribal drum patterns and vocal samples blend with bending synthwork and and the inspired calm that can only come from the sound of wooden instruments.

Bowing us out is ‘Cascade’, the most quintessential Kempston track on there; his distinctive take on house shining across five minutes of late-night grooves.

Detroit legend Rick Wade returns with his fourth Shall Not Fade release: a four track EP packed with timeless deep house.

On Late Right EP, Wade delivers the classic Detroit-sounding deep house with which his name is synonymous, at times experimenting with stylistic elements borrowed from tribal house, acid and ghettotech. The title track is a punchy deep house track with a funk-infused bassline and jazzy ambience which carries through to the next two tracks where it’s accompanied by the rattle of conga drums (‘Kabukicho’) and a gentle acid melody (‘Acid Creep’). Finally, ‘Quantum Jit’ brings things to a giddy close: a stripped-back club tune with skitterish claps and the syncopated breakbeat of drum and bass.
