American artist and producer @kim_anh has been making musical waves for the last decade. Once dubbed LA’s “Club Queen” by Vice during her stint living in the city, she has been an ardent supporter of the underground queer club scene.

Now in New York, her cheekily titled CAN U NOT TALK label kicks off this month with a four-track EP from Kim Anh, backed with a remix from Chicago’s Alinka.

Gottwood festival has been a key fixture on the UK festival scene for a full decade now and with this year’s gathering put on ice, the team behind the revered Welsh woodland gathering have decided to reanimate their Gottwax record label. To kickstart their relaunch the label presents a gigantic triple sized compilation featuring a plethora of artists with a connection to the festival, ranging from its oldest allies to its newest friends, and representing a spread of talent from global superstars, underground sensations, musical journeymen and fledgling talent. The 30 track compilation, compiled by the festival owners alongside their new label manager Geoff Kirkwood (aka Me Me Me records boss Man Power) includes such household names as Roman Flügel, DJ Tennis (in collaboration with Joseph Ashworth), Margaret Dygas, Voigtmann & John Dimas (aka VOIGT.MAS), Ruf Dug, Ron Basejam , Appleblim and Maxxi Soundsystem, nestled alongside the best and brightest in emerging talent, such as Sweely, Anna Wall & Corbi, Bobby, Adam Curtain and Harry Wills. The result is a musical journey that evokes the scope of Gottwood festival itself, and which takes the listener through Balearica, Experimental Music, Disco, Funk, Garage, Bass Music, minimal sounds, and many of the varied forms of House and T echno.. Released digitally on July 20th via Beatport, Bandcamp and Spotify, the compilation will be the first entry in a regular schedule of releases, with a series of artist EPs set to follow which throw further light on the artists close to Gottwood’s heart. Barcelona-based DJ, crate digger and producer Lis Sarroca makes her debut on Shall Not Fade’s Seasons Series, marking the tenth release on the imprint. Taking influence from her extensive travels - before lockdown hit - Sarroca mixes classy 90s house rhythms with standout melodies. No Wait EP follows on from her 2020 release on Hot Haus Records.

Sarroca describes her music as “danceable, energetic, deep and warm”, an ethos reflected throughout this EP. Despite dabbling in variations on dance music, stripped back disco to punchy tech house rhythms, this record is accomplished and consistent, coming together to deliver memories of sweaty summer club nights. ‘No. Wait’ references French filter house, pairing a chugging bass and booming kick drum with sparkly disco keys into one very sultry track. In ‘La Neta’ Sarocca turns her attention to electro with the squelching bassline and drum machine loops but uplifting chords bring it back to house roots. There’s a little bit of Kraftwerk in ‘Round & Round’, a hypnotic pulsing track with synths of a distinctly German sound palette; it’s the darkest moment on the record. The B-side is expansive feel-good house, ‘Hi Montana’ plays with dramatic strings while ‘Get This Right’ is a certified summer anthem of sharp chord stabs and clean bassline made for the beer garden. No Wait closes with ‘AX’, a piece of fun cowbell-smattered organ house.
