Clive From Accounts has had an interesting few years.  His vinyl debut on Fouks’ Outplay Records landed on the shelfs about the same time as the largest record shop and club closure in living history but Clive pressed on. Releases have dropped on Dirt Crew Recordings, On The Corner Records, with his most recent ‘Strictly Business EP’ on Brooklyn disco juggernaut Razor-N-Tape Reserve, laying down the law about what this pleasingly off center, maverick producer can do. New label Income Trax, is Clive from Accounts own filing cabinet of curiosities. As a home for his eccentric and exotic ideas, the debut release comes courtesy of the main office man himself.
Lockdown took its toll on Clive. Not the isolation or sense of impending doom - that was normal - but specifically the worldwide marmite shortage in April. On the verge of a Driving to Dundee barefoot style meltdown, Clive found solace in his 20 year obsession with Alan ‘foot on a spike’ Partridge.  Taking Musique Concrete to its textbook conclusion, Clive has made music ONLY using sounds from TV series I’m Alan Partridge. Over 100, mainly foley samples were repurposed into the two title tracks of the ‘Alan EP’.
‘Alan A’ is a raw yet melodic, big plate of house. Containing everything from drawer slams to air bass, cereal destruction to Black Beauty, this orchestra of found sound makes for some unique and exciting rhythmic textures. Things take a dubby turn on ‘Alan B’, where late night broken beats and sultry bass worthy of Alan’s Deep Bath, featuring Lynn on jungle time-stretched vocals. The EP is bought to a close by off-kilter acid-tinged synthwave nugget in the shape of ‘Linton TT.  It doesn’t follow the Partridge sampling rules but needless to say has the last laugh.  Bonus for the vinyl heads is a ‘Dan!’ locked groove at the end of side A. Cook a cat!

Tilman, longtime label favourite, never fails to bring good vibes with his immaculately constructed outings on Shall Not Fade. A label owner, DJ, producer and music obsessive, the best of his jazz influenced pumping house style is shown on Touch Me Fantasy EP.

Feel good jackin’ house dominates from the start, ‘Rewind Your Dreams’ setting an upbeat tone and easing into the laid back grooves and infectious piano licks of ‘Clouds’. Funky undertones show through on ‘Mind Games’, a track all about syncopated percussive playfulness and awash with sunny beachside chords, a vibe that continues in a Balearic manner through blissed out house wafter ‘Two The Max’ featuring Will Buck. Tilman closes the EP on a different vibe; ‘Woman’ is a pounding dancefloor workout with a harder, more abrasive edge.

Touch Me Fantasy is out Friday, 28th January on Shall Not Fade.

Freerange are very happy to introduce Apoena for his debut release on the label. The Brazilian DJ and producer, now based in Berlin is known for his deep, raw, underground house and techno tracks have appeared on cult labels such as Jus Ed’s Underground Quality, Rawax and Batti Batti with regular supporters including Delano Smith, Laurent Garnier and Agoria to name a few.
On the Dark Emerald EP we are treated to three tracks of hypnotic club grooves which swing from the minimal, chunky bounce of lead track Must Go Deeper, through the rolling, filtered mood of Mind and winding down with the immersive, late night Detroit-inspired sounds of Dark Emerald. Apoena’s production skills mean these tracks sound punchy and BIG on a nice system, creating just the kind of heads-down, locked-on atmosphere the deep and discerning dance floor desires.
