Pugilist - Illumination (STW Premiere)

Following an outing on celebrated Italian label Cosmic Garden, Dynamic duo XPRESSION ready their Low Battery debut with four expressive cuts of jungle laced magic, with deep roots in the quintessential era of rave. 

‘Nitebreak’ moves effortlessly across five minutes of cosmic acid and contemplative rhythms; flickering street lamps lighting the nocturnal city as day turns to night. ‘Quadranite’ diverts to a steadier pace, its springy percussion, vocal samples and zero gravity grooves giving off the nostalgic energy of a homecoming visit. 

The B side opens with ‘Sacred Sessions’, a primal slice of breakbeat heaven. Ethereal pads spill out amongst earthy drums in a spiritual relationship between body and soul. ‘Quiet Earth’ gently brings us back around as the midnight fire slowly begins to dim.

Bristol don Nicky Soft Touch makes his eagerly awaited return with the follow up to his last TIN release, Lonely City Sampler. Set for release almost exactly one year on, Lonely City Cuts sees Soft Touch continue in his deft explorations of sampling, chopping and rearranging beats using cuts from helter skelter and sidewinder tapes. Much like his previous release, as well as the self-released projects he’s shared in the meantime, the LP is centred around a DIY aesthetic, making intimacy and introspection two of its defining features.

Conceived during a stint living in London, the series is imbued with a sense of place. Delivered via raw production techniques, voice recordings and off-kilter, broken garage beats, this positions the release amongst the moody, urban landscapes which provide the backdrop for Burial and Actress’ music. On Volume One, this sounds like narling basslines that ricochet around swung percussion, and plaintive ambience that immerses you in its shadowy worlds. On Volume Two, like hip hop interludes, deep house grooves and hyper-referential skits.

Howdy folks!

It’s been a real long while since I released my last EP on Holding Hands and I am very happy to be back on home turf.

The EP has some electro flavours from me on the first two tracks and then a heavy 2- step number for the third. The fourth track is a remix from Sid Angel (@joey-crouch)and it came about from a remix competition that I ran last year. There was a ton of entries but I loved this one the most as it took things in a totally different direction. This will be Sid Angel’s first release and it’s got a super nice feel to it. Big things coming in the future from him.

I loved so many of the remix entries that I have decided to release a selection of them digitally following the vinyl release as well.

This was another one of those rare moments when I listen to a straight up demo cold and just instantly know that it’s completely and utterly right for the label. Qant ( @qqantt ) served me up some eyes down, impeccably produced bass heavy slices of pie and I was gobbling them down before you could say extra mozzarella.
