keepsakes is a functioning scrapbook of our lives, and as you flip through the pages you can relive the myriad of in-between feelings we experienced in our early 20s. we hope listening to this ep makes you wonder if someone has snatched your diary and put it to music. each and every one of these songs was made with toxic levels of sincerity and sentimentality by people who love each other deeply. “keepsakes” ties our loose ends and musings about calling exes, missing friends, and growing up into the perfect bow and we hope you can see yourself in it. 💌

They have earned a loyal fan base from their EP "Acting Tough" and from their spring tour with Charlie Burg and Laura Elliott. With endearing verses that lead to an addictive chorus as nostalgic your first kiss (or your fist shot), “Blonde Phase” is a song for people that romanticize the past without getting stuck in it.

Reminiscing on blacking out on screwdrivers and needing a friend, "Girls at Parties" tells the story of waking up the next morning with the phone numbers of the women who took care of you in the bathroom the night before. The lush wall of vocal harmonies reflects the myriad of stories sung by those girls, & is further echoed in the bisexual undertones of the chorus, welcoming all the girls looking for the comfort of another girl.

A sweet story about finding embodied, honest love during your bad bangs era, “First November Snow” evokes the racing feeling of first kiss butterflies. The driving drums and giant stack of tender harmonies make you feel like you’re sticking your head out the window of a moving car in a coming of age film. This song was born on a walk home from a party in the early season snow and is an anthem to remind you that good, healthy love is possible.

“Old Bones” captures the feeling of being a ghost floating outside your body, contrasting delicate, haunting vocals with warm, yearning guitar layers. “Old Bones” paints the moments spent avoiding inevitable goodbyes that only can lead to the sifting through of old photos of happy memories, just to end up feeling empty instead of nostalgic.  Shallow Alcove is presenting a love letter to the kind of sadness that can only be born out of love.

this song was born subconsciously in a dream, and since then so much love and intention has been poured into it. when i hear this song, it feels like i’ve opened a music box from my past and am watching all of my memories whir by. we hope it makes you feel that way too. if you have connected with it already, you have our hearts.

“Heart Shaped Locket” is a cold splash of water to the face for anyone who is chronically sentimental to a fault. It’s about desperately trying to keep every moment and person from your past close to your chest, layered around your neck like hundreds of heart shaped lockets. Sometimes going down memory lane doesn’t feel like sweetly opening those lockets and admiring the photos inside, but rather like someone pulling on those chains from behind and choking you with nostalgia. “Heart Shaped Locket” sneaks hard lessons about how growing up is learning to let go into an almost “Keith Urban if he made indie folk” level bop. With anthemic gang vocals about learning how to make friends with time, the ending of the song will leave you feeling like you are sticking your head out of a moon roof like Emma Watson in the Perks of Being A Wallflower.

Shallow Alcove is a band of friends fronted by Grace Krichbaum and Dan Harris. They combine stacked vocal harmonies, catchy guitar riffs, and diary-like lyrics to form a tender soundtrack to young adulthood. Shallow Alcove’s music is based in their love of DIY folk music and colored with narratives of friendship, the changing of the seasons, bad haircuts, and the ache of growing up. What started as friends writing songs in the bedrooms and basements of Upstate New York has since shifted to the apartments and studios of New York City and Philadelphia, but Shallow Alcove’s roots have remained the same: story-telling with the people they love.
