During the first lockdown in Tel Aviv, Guy Shaked – also known as Takiru – decided to take his music to other musical dimensions and explore his production abilities in different genres and tempos. The result is “Voices of July”, a colourful EP, featuring three originals and three remixes, in which every tune has its special story and mood. 

Takiru is well known for his previous releases that received support from acclaimed artists such as Moscoman, Jenia Tarsol, Chaim, and many more, and now he is proud to present his debut release on the respected Lisbon-based label Karakter. The remixes were made with love by Rina & Benji, A-Tweed (SXDNS222/FREEDL029) and Tempura The Purple Boy. 

Premiered here, A-Tweed’s version of the most romantic track of the release. In his interpretation of “Je Taime”, the Italian producer brought the love theme to his world, soaking the original into his characteristic weirdness: Distinctive percussive elements and a throbbing bassline yield the danceability, while the ethereal vocals deliver an eerie and erotic atmosphere.

The ceremony had begun. In a circle they sat - legs crossed, minds activated - following the softly spoken words of the shaman as he welcomed them in. The music travelled around the space: at times capturing their attention, at others sending them into a trance. As one they drank deeply, allowing the liquid to swirl and churn in their stomachs, before waiting for its final release and for their minds to truly open.

This time last year, Argentinian producer Balam landed on Lyon's Hard Fist Records, to pay tribute to the Latin rhythms and percussion that have become a signature in his productions. 'Chants of Pachamama Part 1' was a deep dive into these traditional sounds that Balam effortlessly fuses with contemporary electronics to create something completely his own.

This time, for the second and final instalment, he explores the ritual and practice of magic plants synonymous with the South American rainforest. Across the original tracks ceremonial chants and live percussion are layered over hypnotic modular synths and heavy bass lines, while on the flip Matias Aguayo closes proceedings with his own dark, twisted take on 'Wakax'.

Between some intense FIFA sessions and Jackson's new beach-libertine way of living, Thomass and Theus found some time to make a bit of new music. Live jamming at the beginning and then, in pandemic times via the world wide web, they managed to finish 4 tracks that are a showcase of all the things they like, hate and a bit more. After brilliant appearances on Correspondant, Futureboogie and Duro, Hard Fist is happy to welcome the first collaborative EP of those two major artists from the Mexican psychedelic contemporary scene. 

From the tribal sounds of Don Palenque to the Trippy and weirdo vibes of El Venao, passing by a more straight to the dancefloor oriented track like Clubby, they have created an intense (remember FIFA) and vibrant EP.

Latin American outlet Calypso Records continues its city-focussed compilation series with a new instalment that places the focus on Ecuador capital Quito, with contributions from Nicola Cruz, FE, Quisxosis and NTFL.

Thomass Jackson and Iñigo Vontier’s Calypso Records imprint has been going from strength to strength with every release and following a compilation dedicated to Tel Aviv, they now look to give a platform to Quito based artists. Local talent Nicola Cruz helped assemble the tracks and says, "from the highlands of the equator, an eclectic sound develops in multiple forms: tension, drums and sounds from old records are retranslated to tape to revive emotions. All the tracks in this compilation have been assembled through different experimental methods, as this is something that characterises our creative process around here."

Cruz begins with with 'Tu Recuerdo', a brilliantly unhinged house track riddled with malfunctioning bleeps and beeps. Churning bass and rickety percussion all add to this wonky and most characterful groove. Next up is FE with 'Trade o Temprano', an experimental track that fizzes with static electricity as ambient pads bring eerie feelings to this most brilliantly unusual affair. 

Quixosis comes through with 'Vibras', another inventive track with a loose but percussive rhythm, uneven drum loops and plenty of freewheeling synths bringing their own unique sense of life.  Last of all, NTFL offers 'Vacio,' a punchy deep house track built on an afro groove inspired by UK funky. Lush keys bring soul and colour to this brilliantly carnivalesque and tribal track.

PREMIERE: NTFL - Vacio [Calypso Records]

The french artist Dombrance continues his series of tracks and songs inspired by politicians.

"These are not political songs, I just get inspired by their names and personality" says the producer on an interview with French TV.

In collaboration with Bufi, this is the first time Dombrance uses a non-french politician, choosing the recently elected Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AKA AMLO) and his controversial personality as his victims. Mockery or hommage? Is up to you to decide.

The single is complemented by a dreamy "Tulum" and magnificent re interpretations from in-house artists Mijo & Perfect Lovers, and Ambiance.
