Grown Man Rap Show - Episode 235 - Spotlight on 1990's Profile Records - DJ Toast

Veteran DJ/producer King Shameek has been putting it down for more than two decades. The New Jersey native first came to prominence in 1989 as the DJ for the group Twin Hype, and later appeared on records with classic artists such as Naughty By Nature, T La Rock, King Sun, Sweet Sensation & Lisette Melendez among others. Touring over the years gave Shameek the opportunity to share the stage and DJ booths around the world with the likes of Queen Latifah, Jazzy Jef & the Fresh Prince, EPMD, Digital Underground, Jay-Z, Chris Brown, Bow Wow, Trey Songz, Just Blaze and Funk Master Flex to name a few. 

In the early 80s (before Twin Hype fame), a young King Shameek living in the Bay Area ran around town with Sway & Tech (Wake Up Show), KutMasta Kurt and Peanut Butter Wolf (Stones Throw), a few friends who also made their mark in the hip hop game. "I was first introduced to hip hop while living in Cali" says Shameek. "Collecting hip hop records since Rappers Delight, and taking trips back to Jersey/NY in search of hard to find records that eventually helped me land guest appearances on radio stations like KUSP in Santa Cruz and KZSU at Standford University." 

These days, when Shameek is not producing tracks, creating remixes or mashups he is still going strong and can be heard in clubs from the east to the west coast and via his weekly internet classic mix show called 'Down with the King" on DWildMusicRadio.com. On his downtime Shameek also enjoys working on mashups which DJs love to spin.
