We are back with a new mixtape "Synthesis II".
R&D stands for Research & Development and is brought to you by Rafaël & Daniel.

The constant crate digging and love in general for music, the endless quest of exploring.. This second mix is a selection of old and new gems that have been mixed together with our favorite tracks from our dear old friend WHRK who released two albums here on OH

Both WHRK albums are available at:

OHMIX003 - R&D presents Synthesis II - WHRK - Studio Mix (2o22)

An extended mix from Rrose to celebrate our entry into 2023 and the upcoming release of TULIP SPACE [EAUX1591] available for pre-order now at https://eaux.ro/album/tulip-space and the upcoming full-length album PLEASE TOUCH (full announcement in Spring). The mix contains tracks from both releases.

This is a studio mix, started with an initial live take and then combed over meticulously with automated filters, eq, and fx. This is the same setup I use to play out, minus the automation. There is rarely a point when only one track is playing. I always try to find mixes that feel like a new track emerges from the combination. I imagine the optimal listening environment to be eyes-closed with headphones on, but I also hope you will feel an irresistible urge to move at some points ;)

For the nerds, here is an overview of my automation session: http://rrose.ro/23a

RESPAWN (BLUESTONE CHURCH HARDWARE LIVE SET)

Drumfunk/braindance don dgoHn (John Cunnane) returns on Love Love for a collaborative 4 track EP ‘Talk To The Planets’ with jazzy experimentalist Danish friend Badun (Oliver Duckert). What results here is a bubbling platter of otherworldly sound design full of warmth (and the slickest drum-work going!) that fully imbibes both artists’ individual songwriting sensibilities, striking a curious balance between organic improvisation and meticulously detailed programming.

Sonically the EP could be described as hi-resolution psychedelic drum n bass as much as it could alien future-jazz, detailed and rich with mad grooves just beneath the surface. Structurally the tracks are unpredictable but not jarring, with a free-flowing quality to them and a pace that feels like meandering at lightspeed. Way too immersive for casual listening, this is music for getting lost in the stars. Like using arcane beat science at a ruffneck hippy drum circle to astral project through space.

The Ebertbrothers are Axel and Michael Ebert, an artist/composer duo living and working in Berlin. They started to collaborate in 2006, first creating video art pieces, then moving more towards a combination of visual&sound performances, which is now their main focus.

During a year of gigs throughout Europe in 2010 they refined and extended their sonic palette. “Susten Pass” showcases their broad range of composition skills, featuring both detailed, micro-edited studio tracks and raw, performance-inspired landscapes of sound.

The album shifts between slow-motion sceneries (“Chrono”, “A perfect Fairytale” and “Commode”) and dark grinders like “Feature Film” and “Black String”. On the way it passes by electro-esque tracks like “Downrock Crooza” and “Risc Assembler” before taking a rest and having some beans&bacon at a lonely campfire (“Cowboy”). The album closes with the enthusiastic and shimmering “Susten Pass” and “Maitre du Village”.
Track 14 is dedicated to the late Joe Papa from “Controlled Bleeding”.

When the great and ‘super-onion’,the being beyond the layers, was asked what it is he made of this delectable collection of sound he responded with a spontaneous burst of joy which followed by a poem. this is that poem:
“Loosely Lulling through Loungey Limbos Sound n Somber on a Summers
Day, Discernible Delusions reveal Depth
Lingers like Soap Squeaking through Divisions Light Seeps from the dusk
Caramel tone cut into shape
Although Salted, The low centre has warm sludge”
