Yasiin Gaye- I Want You 'Til The Summertime

In the closing months of 2012 BBE label artist Chris Read was enlisted by classic Los Angeles imprint Delicious Vinyl to produce a mixtape for Wax Poetics magazine celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the release of The Pharcyde's seminal debut LP 'Bizarre Ride'. The resulting mix was a runaway success clocking tens of thousands of plays online and kickstarted a relationship with the label that would go on to see Chris remix two of the group's best loved tracks, 'Runnin' and 'Passin Me By'.

Those tracks are now available for the first time on this limited edition BBE x Delicious Vinyl double vinyl 7inch release. Treating the familiar original with respect, Chris has called upon the vocal talents of long time collaborators Lizzy Parks (Tru Thoughts) and guitarist Giles Barratt (Breakin Bread) to rework passages from 'Runnin' to create a 2014 update on the themes of the much loved Jay Dee produced classic. 'Passin Me By' meanwhile gets a '90s throwback rework utilising sample material from the original to great effect to create a track which bears all the hallmarks of the golden era.
Mastered and cut by Walter Coelho who cut Jay Dee's 'Welcome to Detroit' back in 2001, the circle is complete!

Probably the coolest sample the great Jay Dee (J Dilla) has flipped, and an equally cool original song by this 60's rock group The Cyrkle that i felt could use some shine. If not familiar i suggest checking out a song 'Get A Hold' by Tribe Called Quest..   Enjoy the free download!

As an exercise I recently recreated the beat to "Mecca And The Soul Brother" by legendary hip hop producer #PeteRock. In its creation I tasked myself with honoring the original track while adding my personal touch. Upon hearing the tracking playing in our studio, #RobertGlasper said "let me get on dat". This is the magical result....

This is a project that I was asked to do I guess sometime in the early 2000's . It was a remix for a Bob James project . the idea was to take an existing piece of work and flip it . So this was my flip . I had Pete Miser come in and do some vocal snippets . I never knew what happened to the project but I did put a lot of work into this mix so I figured I would share it . Gil's Pinky Ring (pt.1) clean edit

The first sample from the forthcoming Shaolin Jazz: The 37th Chamber mixed by DJ 2-Tone Jones.  The concept for the project was originally developed by Gerald Watson who got the idea from an interview with graphic designer Logan Walters; the creator of a series of jazz-inspired Wu-Tang album covers dubbed, Wu-Note.  Mr. Walters liked the conecpt for the actual mix so much that he agreed to create the design cover art for the project.

This track features Raekwon, Inspectah Deck and Method Man over a blend between Pharaoh Sanders' "Astral Traveling" and Jneiro Jarel's "Pharaoh's Dream".
