Last year, I fell in love in a way that truly felt real, and along with all the butterflies came the challenge of transitioning from a dream summer together into four and a half months of long distance. As I took a semester in Los Angeles to finish my degree and find myself in the music industry, I nurtured a new appreciation for ambient music, and began treating my project files like journal entries. Focusing on this meditative new method of channeling emotions into music, I am excited to usher in “Plumes,” a broader exploration of these new feelings that have since continued to be important to me, even though I am finally back in Austin again now. Today, I am excited to share the first single with you: “ABIA Tune” 🦋

For full transparency, this song is about what might be the worst I have ever felt in recent memory. Named after the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, it’s directly inspired by a weekend in which I flew back to visit. Following the unbelievable rush of happiness came a genuine physical heartache as I had to leave again. As awful as it was, it was beautiful to feel in my chest that I really cared that much. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the artwork back with this imagery of a blue butterfly. It’s a perfect symbol of the complexity of that experience, and such a clever interpretation of the precious sadness behind the track. It’s easy to say that I never want to feel the way I felt in that airport again, but I think it’s really important that I did. 

I want to sincerely thank Chad and the entire team at @enhanced for believing in me and my sound. I am proud to be in the first handful of artists to appear on their new @shapes-of-solitude label with this release, which includes a special “Departure Version” as a B-side for DJ sets. 

There’s so much more to come. This is NEW YOUTH at its most personal. Take flight with me ✈️
