After countless hours spent chopping up vinyl, laying down basslines, tweaking synthesizers and banging on drum pads I'm proud to present "I'm Gone". This album aims to bring back the soulful sounds of the past while maintaining a bass-heavy modern feel. I'm especially happy with two tracks on the album which feature my friend Willdabeast (of Snug Harbour and Michal Menert Big Band). Will laid down some soulful horns, flute and a few other instruments to take my sample-based beats to the next level. In their never-ending search for new textures and tones to work with, Shapeshifter has never been shy about drawing in new friends and frequencies to expand their sound palette.

Now, for their latest bass odyssey, they’ve called upon the multihued beat making talents of "funkadelic bass music proponent, Opiuo, to cook up the Slug A Bug EP.

On Slug A Bug’s title track, Shapeshifter and Opiuo mash up a dirty bassline, mozzie-like synth stabs, soul claps, squelching keys and a wailing guitar riff – all set ablaze by the unmistakable voice of P-Diggsss. And B-siding the EP is ‘Warehouse Be Like’, a choppy roof-raising party starter, again featuring Diggsss, which oozes fun.

This isn’t the first time Shapeshifter has crossed paths with ex-pat Kiwi bass fiend, Opiuo; he previously turned in a deliciously fruity remix of their track ‘Monarch’, plus a supremely bass-heavy take on ‘Longest Day’. They’re also touring bros, having linked for a 2013/2014 summer run through crucial North Island destinations.

The Slug A Bug EP though is their first true musical meeting of minds, a collaboration that carves out space between Shapeshifter’s speaker-rattling bass adventures and Opiuo’s funk-fuelled glitch.

"Smile" is the third single from Coachella performing, neo-soul talent Leo Napier’s debut EP. Born in the US but now a proud London Ladbroke Grove resident, you’ll recognise the versatile songwriter’s crisp vocals as featuring alongside Wu-Tang Clan’s Raekwon on Gramatik’s most successful single to date, Native Son. Chart topping dance act GRiZ’s electro-funk take on Before I Go Away was released by the DJ last year and has garnered millions of streams to date. This follows from their previous collaboration A Fine Way To Die which also has streams in the millions. The single from Leo’s EP ‘Mind Up’ (out Autumn 2017) premiered on Wonderland in June 2017 and has already picked up millions of Spotify streams. Westwood is proud to present K+Lab's latest release, the Wiggy Ep! 

Featuring a double slice of boom bap inspired glitch hop, this is the New Zealand natives first release to come out of his newly relocated studio in Vancouver, Canada and the results could not be sweeter. Taking a departure from his usual funkified tunes and channeling his love for hip hop he delivers the goods with some straight up bassline rollers.

Enlisting LA-based rapper, EVeryman, on "Banga Boomerang", quirky raps simmer alongside tough beats and tight wobbles, the track takes a turn for the best with an ending so heavy any drum n' bass enthusiast is sure to break their neck. "Wiggy" is another collaboration between New Zealand's Alias and Sam Ross who feature on K+Lab's last album "The Worldly's", as Ross’s bass slaps take centre stage contrasting the sluggish analog bass, glitched vocals and tight cuts from Alias.

It’s a double slice of bass meets hiphop in true K+Lab fashion to hold fans over as the Kiwi producer moves back into his studio over the Canadian winter to finish up his forthcoming full length album, due out on Westwood in early 2018!
