Anyone with kids will know the classic tale The Gruffalo. One godfather of my baby son Joshua recently worked in the Shetland Islands so gave him a copy of the book in Shetlandese. I was reading that to Joshua, the other day, when a mining fellow called Paul Johnson rang and Paul said that if I recorded a podcast of the Gruffalo in Shetlandese then he would donate £100 to my favourite charity Woodlarks, which I have been supporting for more than a decade and a half. There was no real evidence  for this other than a dodgy dossier paid for by the Clinton campaign.  Yet journalists such as Jon Sopel, Kylie Morris, barmy Carol Cadwalladr and Matt Frei insisted Trump was toast. The Mueller report is now out. There was no conclusion. So where are the apologies for this disgraceful episode in the history of fake news?  There are none. I am not sure that my Uncle's long term collaborator Richard North appreciates the irony of his response to that podcast which I discuss here. I consider how, perhaps, one silver lining of this crisis is that mankind starts to appreciate its own powerlessness and perhaps sees more relevance in religion and the merits in following the words of Jesus. I look at a tweet by Mail on Sunday columnist Dan Hodges demonstrating both Group Think (everyone applauds him) but also the sheer ignorance of the media. And then I look at a study from Sunetra Gupta, professor of theoretical epidemiology at Oxford University suggesting that up to half of us on the UK may have, or have had Covid 19 and discuss that.

Not only in the wider population, but also among NHS staff, it is clear that BAME folks are dying in far greater numbers, relative to the population as a whole, than they should. Yesterday I debunked the nation that NHS staff were dropping like flies (they are not) in a way that is beyond doubt connected to their employment. Today I tackle this issue which is likely to be even more controversial. Some on the extreme right say the BAME stats are down to cultural practices. I sense that if this is the case it is very, very much at the margin. But there are other reasons: where BAME population density is at its highest, the average household size and critically the prevelance of multi generational households. Many on the left see what is happening as some sort of scandal and demand costly action and enquiries and, as ever, it is hard to resist the mob and GroupThink.But if folks acted objectively and just looked at demographics and hard data they might understand what is really happening. There are victims yes, but not victims of any plot or conspiracy, just folks getting ill for all too obvious reasons.

We were told by ALL the politicians, nearly all the media, by many scientists, including the world famous virologist Piers Morgan, that we had no choice but to respond to Coronavirus with a draconian lockdown that has smashed our civil liberties and hurled us into the worst recession since the 1930s. Sweden is the one Western country to have gone down a different route despite immense media pressure and threats from the World Health Organisation. But the bodies are not piling up in mass graves in Malno, they are not running out of death carts in Stockholm or Gothenburg. And that exposes the GroupThink driven calamity we are now all suffering for what it is. The media still think the scandal is that we did not lockdown earlier or provide enough PPE. But data analysis or logic is not something anyone at the BBC seems to understand - they don't teach that sot of thing on liberal arts courses at Oxbridge. The real scandal is that we have blundered into a policy which will, in the end, show that the "cure" was not a cure at all but was in fact worse than the ailment. Time once again for our leaders to read the last work by my late uncle, Christopher Booker, on GroupThink.
