In July 2022, Englishman Ken Jones visited Dr. Sharony Green's Music and Race in the UK class, which is part of the University of Alabama at Oxford Summer 2022 study abroad program held at Worcester College. He lived in Neasden, a London neighborhood and setting for award-winning Afro-Briton novelist Diana Evans' 26a. Jone and Dr. John Beeler, who teaches at the University of Alabama's History Department with Green, pushed the students' thinking on the complexities of postwar race, empire and music as revealed in their Neasden experiences in the 1980s and 1990s and Evans' amazing book.

In 2022, I taught in my university's Alabama at Oxford study abroad program at Worcester College in Oxford, England. A student asked me to summarize some of the music heard during the postwar period. The songs on this quick podcast, which I made three years ago, are Marvin Gaye, What's Happening Brother, Grant Green's Selma March, John Coltrane's Alabama, Mahalia Jackson, The Lord's Prayer, Staple Singers' I'll Take You There, Nina Simone's "My Sweet Lord, Martha and the Vandellas' Heatwave and Abby Lincoln and Max Roach's "Tears."
