“Layers” is a compilation by South African hip-hop mogul & boom bap enthusiast, Wayne Robertson, also known as Hipe. Focusing on pairing his favorite loops with crowd pleasing accapellas, the Mixtape aims to showcase the fact that sample based hip-hop is still relative, even in an ever evolving pool of new school sounds. With samples ranging predominantly from the 1970s and vocals going as far as Rihanna’s Work & Desiigner’s Panda, there’s a little something for everyone.

Having started out as a producer in the late 90s & drawing inspiration from some of the world’s greatest, such as Madlib & Hi-Tek; Hipe’s been awarded multiple times for his productions, worked with & produced for local and international artists such as ProVerb, CREAM, Ill Skillz, Youngsta, SkyZoo, Boy Wonder, Camo, NonkuPhiri and of late, features on the new Khuli Chana EP, One Source.
