Winter Winter is the sonic equivalent of subconsciously doodling while being on a call.

The song has no meaning and is not intended to have one either. It’s probably the result of an outburst.

Maybe all I wanted was to explore how harsh things sound coupled with a soft piano falling over itself in loops.

Aabad and Charkha are two songs written, recorded, then rewritten and re-recorded over a few months. This process became quite ritualistic, while Aabad was the song being made at night right before sleep, Charkha was the song being written first thing in the morning; both in my head. Naturally the songs became a call and response to what was being said in the songs.

Aabad reflects unfettered hope for better days to come. Charkha responds to this hope and argues for unfettered perseverance to get to the better days almost like a horse with blinds on.

Since he started in 2011, Shashwat Bulusu has been turning heads with his trademark non-conforming approach toward songwriting. Shashwat’s unapologetic DIY experimentation truly makes him one of a kind. As a result, it’s incredibly difficult to put him in a box.

A singer-songwriter, producer and visual artist, Shashwat is remarkably self aware about his creative process and tries not to over-romanticise his own art. On a cursory listen to his oeuvre of musical narratives, one is bound to be struck by his fearlessness in foraying into new sonic territories. Being a multilingual artist, Shashwat writes in both English and Hindi, each allowing him to delve into unique expressions, sometimes being veiled and other times being more confrontational. An avid story-teller through his songs and his live performances, Shashwat’s songs primarily deal with themes of absurdity and self-admission, underpinned with a sense of raw emotion and vulnerability.

With 4 single releases, the A-side/B-side ‘Aabad’ marking his debut as a Hindi songwriter, 3 nationwide tours, prominent live performances at festivals such as Kochi Biennale ‘23, NH7 Weekender ‘22, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Online Concert ‘21 and scoring for the Indie film ‘Gamit’, Shashwat is steadily and firmly coming into his own, a sonic-universe that reflects his vision as a multifaceted and multidisciplinary artist.
