This mix was inspired by the time I spent in my hometown Belgrade following the period of being quite musically inactive and physically away. Amid events unfolding in Serbia, there was one particular incident with a 2-year-old child named Danka, who disappeared. The emotions and memories of this accident have been tried to be captured in this mix. A fight for our children's brighter and safer future and a much better tomorrow is yet to come. But contributing in any way to that struggle or being conscious about the problems these children and our society are facing is something I dared to commit to and tried to understand.
Challenged by this immense inspiration, I have decided to do something I'd never done before. I've recorded a mix that starts from 80-something bpms and gradually develops into 120 and something bpms (without any particular preparation). By doing this, I also wanted to give my best and honour a great and personally very well respected artist who played after me on that occasion.

“Kick back” does not fit in any genre, but is about jou: music without borders, inspired by icons en with more analog vibes then before.

Making music has always been one of my passions and I have been playing around with electronic music now for a long time. And before starting a new track, I’m always thinking if it’s going to be a techno, electro, progressive house, or any other electronic genre related track. I rarely end up making a track in the style I expected it to be. To be honest, I don’t know in which genre this track fits best. What I do know is that there are electronic influences with some groovy touch and wavy sounds that keep the air flow through your body, all related to the music I grew up with like Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Jean-Michel Jarre, Dave Clarke, Pet Shop Boys, …and I love to play around with analog instruments, some nice string sounds layered with pumping beats and short voice samples.

Next to my previous track “I’m back” this track is the second track where my analog synthesizer was embedded in the track. So if you look at it from that end, there is more analog vibe in my tracks starting from now on. And given the fact that I said to myself not to put my music in any genre, I’m deciding to kick back to music genres and just go my way so …

Knife presents Sunil Sharpe for the 200th podcast in our series.

Sunil Sharpe is one of Europe's most renowned and well-loved techno DJs. Gaining an enviable reputation for his DJing in the early '00s, he was soon inviten to play at Berlin's Tresor Club, marking the start of an intensive involvement in the techno scene. Sunil has played extensively
around Europe at the likes of Berghain, Fabric, Concrete, Sub Club, Glastonbury Festival and much more. He was also DJ of choice on the first two Karenn European tours, the last of which was marked by his now classic Boiler Room set in London.

Known primarily for his fast-moving, skillful style on the decks, Sunil's reputation as a producer of raw, individualistic techno, has grown in tandem with his reputation as a DJ. To date he has appeared on labels such as Works The Long Nights (aka Sheworks), Black Sun Records, Rave Or Die, Trensmat, Mord, Inner Surface Music, Violet Poison and many more. Sunil also recently setup
On The Hoof, a label dedicated specifically to his own productions and collaborations with friends.

Sunil makes up one half of Tinfoil alongside fellow Dublin-based producer DeFeKT. Initially forged as a studio partnership in 2014 (and more recently as a live show), the pair have since racked up an impressive catalogue of 12"s on their own self-titled label. Additionally, Sunil runs the wonderfully erratic Earwiggle imprint that has built a dedicated following, releasing new names and old heroes into the battlefield.

Sunil's application to techno and the scene in general, pushes far beyond the standard
DJ/producer mould. Enjoying a long stint in pirate radio from his early days of active DJing, Sunil joined national station RTÉ 2fm in 2007, where he has since offered up a monthly mix of new music. The show has also been characterized by in-depth interviews with the likes of Jeff Mills, Surgeon, Blawan and many others.

Sunil has also devised a new format for playing/reviewing new music in "The Quarterly Crate". Now in its third year, the hugely informative video series supplies a special insight into his most recent vinyl acquisitions.

For this new transmission, Simone represents Autumn, a season of transitions, fragile balances, quiet intensity.
His music, suspended between ambient, drone, and subtle rhythmic tensions, carries the same introspective weight found in his latest work E(X)FORMA, a silent critique of the cult of appearance and the aesthetics of disaster.

The set was recorded in his home studio, where most of his ideas take shape: a space of observation and inward movement. Here, Simone lets textures breathe, lets silence speak, and shapes a narrative that feels both personal and universal.

Initially part of the '90s French rave scene, Sylvain Peltier transitioned to the alias Zadig in 2009, forging a significant connection with the influential Syncrophone label in Paris. His instrumental role in the city's techno resurgence is underscored by the launch of his Construct Re-Form label in 2011, introducing and supporting emerging French talents. Zadig's influence extends internationally, with performances at renowned venues such as TRESOR and the Weather festival. Chiming in for Bassiani’s anniversary party on October 10th comes an exceptional talent from the Asturian coast and Architectural’s third appearance in the Podcast series. Since 2004, Juan Rico’s been holding the line as Reeko, a stand-in for blistering industrial rhythms, founder of Mental Disorder and founding partner of Spanish techno bastion PoleGroup. Come 2010, a new incarnation emerged under the stage name Architectural, a faceless and assumedly authorless variant of his that played on rich textures, cinematic tones and a heavier focus on the architecture of sound itself. In the studio he manipulates and records sounds in real time, allowing for a greater degree of spontaneity than working with standalone parts would otherwise permit. No longer incognito, Architectural offers a brand of ambient techno charged through with Jazz and references from the world of film that pulsates and slithers, crackles and shifts. From his earliest releases on his eponymous Architectural imprint, through Semantica, Non Series and others, his music has established itself as a touchstone for avant-garde techno centred on body and dancefloor, and his future’s sure to keep delivering more of his monolith beats. Bassiani Podcast 287 is a truly impressive addition to the series, a sweeping three-hour montage of gritty textures, modulated frequencies and punchy basslines recorded live at Bassiani.
