Kayo is a filmmaker, who currently works for VICE News. Still, Kayo started his career in the NYC underground dance scene as In intern for EMOTIVE RECORDS, then KINGSTREET RECORDS, where he was hired after college. 

He would eventually become a record slinger at SATELLITE RECORDS NYC and club owner of 667 BarGalleryLounge, Brooklyn.
While at 667 he created BKNY party with Tyrone Francis (Blak N Yello) along with residents Donna Edwards and Lil Ray.

Based out of Bushwick’s Human Head Recordstore, California’s Shawn Dub and Germany’s Sticky Dojah bring you the „Records Before Rent“ show. Each month they play their latest finds and your all time favorites. Both won’t shy away from themed sets (their post election healing set was a favorite!) and often feature guests from all around the world. All vinyl, all live, all soulful. Both are heavy diggers and seasoned party rockers and love to bring it all together on air. Expect the odd classic as well as tracks and versions you’ve never heard before.

Darone Sassounian is on a never-ending search for fresh sounds. Pulling records from his collection and from recent digs, he aspires to share music that moves him and others. Whether you’re on the dancefloor or anywhere else in the world, Darone’s knowledge on music combined with his technical ability approaches a contemporary audience, by clashing the old with the new. Styles ranging from disco, soul, jazz, international obscurities, house, and more. You can find him each month here on dublab.

On today’s edition of the show, Darone invites @deonjamarmd. Deon is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of family. Growing up hearing many different styles of music in the household is the inspiration behind his range of selection. Inspired by everything from jazz, funk, & soul, to more modern black dance music forms like hip-hop/r&b, house, techno, & broken beat.

His career in Detroit began as resident DJ & organizer for the monthly hip-hop showcase “Bluecollar Gentleman”.
Around the same time, working with Theo Parrish to promote the Music Gallery party series & most recently to co-curate Theo’s ‘Detroit Forward’ compilation on K7 Records.

Aside from playing gigs, Deon also enjoys programming events of his own such as the “Healin’ Session” party series and the music and art exhibition, “Black Music”.

Stefan Ringer is a producer and DJ hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. Since he started out releasing music under the moniker @REKchampa in 2010, he has garnered attention with his unique take on house, techno and everything in between. Four years later, Stefan released on legendary house label NDATL, and is a frequent collaborator with label head Kai Alcé. Stefan has a myriad of other releases and credits on various labels and has also started his own imprint, FWM Entertainment, which is home to his most recent works. Stefan has been an influential force in Atlanta’s dance community, and holds a residency at the Sound Table with Ash Lauryn. In addition he curates and produces a monthly party called Kudzu which has become an underground dance music destination in the southeastern region of the US. Through his DJ sets, productions and contributions to the culture; Stefan is building a legacy.
