“The Bird and the Fish” is an indie folk-style narrative featuring lush and evocative orchestral instrumentation. 

Its unique selling point is the blend between the raw intimacy of the singer-songwriter genre and the grandeur of a string orchestra; the mixture of these aiming to evoke both the fragility of the former, juxtaposed against the latter's nostalgic warmth, which is reminiscent of classic Disney soundtracks. The twin guitars add a shimmery tone, mirroring sunlight on the ocean's surface, with the harmonics mimicking the rustling of wind through the trees. The harmonies of the song are haunting, laced with dissonance, reflecting the difficulties faced on the journey of self-discovery. The two voices are foils -  singing a similar tune both musically and thematically, but from two sides of the same coin. 

At its core, this song explores the yearning and struggle for self identity, personal meaning, and the elusive "what if", all of which are too easily put aside and buried in prioritising society's expectations. It also reminds us of the adage that the process matters more than the outcome - living each day with integrity and courage is part of what gets us right where we're meant to be.
