This week's entry to the Local Selection welcomes Speedy P to the series as he embarks on a sensual listening journey for the guts of an hour. You can expect fluid mixing from start to finish with a range of bassline and IDM fused together, resulting in a pristine listening experience.

Next up on the Four Four Local Selection is Speedy P. The Midnight Disco resident possesses knowledge beyond his years when it comes to DJing. Some might say that this is down to his sleek mixing style and his keen ear for unearthing copious amounts of killer records and they might be right. This mix holds no bars, leaving everything to the listener as Speedy P transcends through an array of genres which reflect various emotions with ease. Possessing an arsenal of highly energetic cuts as well as a collection of sombre and introspective tracks in-between is delightful listening.

Given Speedy P's killer repertoire as a DJ, this has lead him to support numerous artists across the dance music industry such as Nikki Nair, Alan Fitzpatrick, Venetta, Finn, Amaliah, EMA, Efa O'Neill, Bakey, Reflex Blue and so on. Providing the correct amount of warmth and energy in the room before switching out, this impressive and generally forgotten-about skill that he procured over years of hard work and dedication has served him well thus far and we are super excited to see what he gets up to next.

Pev swiftly follows up the Pulse EP with another four tracks of sprightly club gear that continue to shape out his current areas of exploration in the studio. As ever, there are no fixed concepts or approaches - just an instinct for energising, inventive tracks taking in a range of tempos and rhythms.  

The first half of Pulse Modulation EP is marked out by linear rhythms which showcase the most techno aspects of Pev’s sound. ‘Pulse V’ is charged with the kind of alien synth lines which could only come from his studio, but also draw a line to the hi-tech soul of foundational Detroit techno. ‘Pulse VI’ has a starker, bleep-led sound pitched towards tougher dancefloors. 

’Pulse VII’ strips things back in comparison, leaning in on a blanket of bass and keeping the drums sparse and to the point - a study in soundsystem pressure.  Widening the spectrum of the record, ‘Pulse VIII’ sees Pev make a rare push up into 160+ territory - something normally reserved for his DJ sets. Swerving obvious break edits, his take on jungle is lean and crisp, delivering a fresh slant on the sound while maintaining the sharp focus of his current output.

@pvlv returns to the label with the release of his second EP, ‘Lights Off’.
Ukraine DJ and producer follows last year’s ‘101A’ EP uses his love for UK club styles and soundsystem culture as a jump-off point for three mutated dancefloor slammers. The hallmarks that have shaped his sound to date are all here; nimble breaks and beefy sub bass plumes underpin glitchy melodies for an effect that’s as light as it is propulsive. 

Starting off proceedings on the EP is the title track ‘Killah Tape’ establishes his sonic palette from the outset, with driving, high-energy drum work alongside stretched vocals chops. 
Next up is ‘Hoodlum’, which layers breaks and  throbbing grooves under an otherworldly, warped vocal for create dark, intense atmospheres.
While third track ‘Cave Walk’ slows the tempo to 107 bpm for a writhing techno-dancehall hybrid with weighty with some off-kilter synths and bass wobbles, it’s a testament to PVLV’s knack for a subtle curveball.
