Vincent's Dad, Jerry, emigrated to Canada with his parents and grandad at the age of five. . Like so many families they had left  England in poverty hoping to make a good living from working a smallholding near Pigeon Lake outside the settlement of Ennismore. 
His Dad spoke of his love of the smartly uniformed ‘Mounties’ riding on their horses. 
And walking  to the small schoolhouse each day across the open elds and in the winter when the snows were deep up to your knees he and his school mates would put on  there snow shoes to trek across the fields, so no schooling was missed. 
Sunny summer days saw what seemed endless fun playing by the lake, stone skimming or out in the elds with total freedom and space...... often chasing and rolling round with the families much loved alsatian dog, Major.
 To his children it sounded like heaven.
Vincent wrote this song based on what his Dad had told him!

Laura Knight's portrait of Ruby Loftus became picture of the year in 1943. Many came to admire it at London's Royal academy , It was a statement about the work that women undertook in the Second World War taking over many jobs that had previously been the sole property of men! The Picture shows Ruby Lofus on the Left and Artist Laura Knight on the right.

Joan met Charlie dancing at Finnegans on Wednesday 26th November 1941...The song reflects that on the last day of 1942 they were still together. The Diary entry for Thursday March 31st reads...'Went to Work'....In the evening went to the Shakespeare to see Vivien Lee in 'Lady Hamilton' ....Afterwards  we sat in the Front Room....Mum and Dad joined us!
The First song in a short trilogy of songs covering Joan's meeting with Charlie 'Jock', Her time without him and finally her engagment!

George had a Watch Repair Shop and Jewellers in Swan Street. He was colour blind which meant he could not distinguish between Gold and Silver. Charlie had transferred a money order from Egypt where he was serving and having changed it at the Post Office Joan took the money to 'Uncle George' to buy her engagement ring!
The third song in the Trilogy from 'Joan'.....This song marks the engagemnt of Joan and Charlie!

I put new strings on my Brother's Yamaha FG 180 (Bought in 1968) and wrote this little tune on it! The Guitar is a Dreadnought with a really big sound! Lisa McGlinn then added a stunning Flute Track!

Like The Arrow To The Bow

In 1942 Instructions were issued to American Troops in England in the form of a leaflet which set out clearly how American Serviceman should behave while they were in the UK. It became a popular read fror English people as well as it set out a clear image of how  Americans  viewed the stoical English people!
 However it was never put to music a fact that we thought we would address....And so #'Getting Along was born!

Ramblin' Days

Title track from 'The Winds Of Salford'......A family emigrate  (The Gough Family)in the 1960's on the £10 passage.....				
However their Father David misses his friends and the drizzling streets of Salford and so two years after emigration ...they return.
The Picture is by local artist Philip Westcott and is entitled 'Eccles Town Hall' It appears with his permission.

The Winds Of Salford

I wrote this piece for a production of 'Cider With Rosie that ne're saw the light of day. The picture was painted by Rob Stevens who was the drummer in the very first band I played in ....Stroud in the middle sixties. His paintings are fantastic and I include a link if you would like to browse his gallery.  Peter Morgan arranged and played the Violin for the piece which is also featured in 'Corsets and Kippers'.....'A Manchester Story'

While visiting Aubeterre in France and walking through the town I became aware of an old lady staring at me from her door...When I caught her eye she closed the door....This could have been her story!

This track was written in 1968...We were playing with Cello Player Mick Surman and have never been sure if he contributed to the song or not...we tend to think he did but have never been able to contact him to hear his side of the story...this version was recorded in 1985 and was remixed on April 4th 2020!

I Will Be With You

Kathleen Byrne wrote a prose piece for the book '100 Years Of Trafford Park' We adapted her lovely idea into this song which is a  memory of one of the Air Raids on Trafford Park in 1940 as part of the Salford Blitz.

After reading the book 'That Summer' by Andrew Greig the words and music just came together in a very short time...Without giving anything away the story is set in 1940 at the height of the Battle of Britain...highly recommended if you've not read it!

1922: A tragic Year for the family of Emily Glencross. These are her words! They are taken from her autobiography 'Breakfast At Windsor' This covers her life from 1914 to 1927.

This is a Stereo Track written and recorded in 1972 on a Sony TC-630 Reel To Reel Tape Recorder and recently recovered from a box of tapes in my attic!
Despite being tempted as it is in perfect concert pitch I have added nothing to it!!

Everywhere I Wander

Having visited an exhibition of War Pictures by Don McCullin this song emerged inspired by the faces that had stared out in the gallery many years after the pictures had been taken.
