Montreal-based synth-pop artist Sheenah Ko (@sheenako) takes a contemplative and expansive view of how we navigate the world we live in on her exhilarating sophomore full-length album, Future Is Now.  Having gained a reputation of being a fearless musical warrior who marches to the beat of her own drum, the singer-songwriter, who also serves as a core member of Canadian indie darlings Besnard Lakes, hopes the record’s nine songs will encourage listeners to broaden their horizons, break the cycle, effect change, and live life to the fullest.  Ko appeared on Ashes to Ashes (@ashestoashescjlo) to talk about Future Is Now, the role of nature on the record, and lessons learned from touring with so many different artists.

Sheenah Ko is a Chinese-Irish multi instrumentalist born and raised in Toronto who now resides in the Saguenay region of Québec. Best known as a member of the Besnard Lakes, she is an energetic keyboardist performing internationally with a wide array of bands. In 2020, Ko introduced her solo productions with her debut album Nowhere In Time. Her music video, Wrap Me Up, won a 2020 UK Music Video Award and a 2021 Juno nomination in addition to charting in the top 10 national college radio charts. Future Is Now is its 2022 follow-up, accompanied by an energetic and engaging show of vapor-pop, sometimes psychedelic, passing through portions closer to ecstatic dance, imbued with a jazz spirit that leaves room for the improvisations of Ko and her musicians. For those who like to smile, applaud, dance and let themselves be transported into a unique and stunning universe.
