Let me tell you a story. 

After inner silence was written, but before one last goodbye was recorded, my Mum died at the age of 49.

She was a great lover of music, a true lover of music. She always thought that my guitar style was closest to Peter Green than any other player. And she absolutely loved this song. 

She used to talk about how the song gave her a sense of freedom, of being in flight over the seas, like the albatross in the title. 

It was for this reason that we played it at her funeral. She was now, at last, in peace, and perhaps even, in flight. 

I am now older than she was when she died. I never thought I would suffer in my life the way she did, but it turned out I may have been wrong about that. 

But with strength of spirit we can slowly with time heal and overcome all challenges. 

So yesterday, with no plan, I recorded albatross for the first ever time as a cover - although me and my brothers in anathema played it a few times live. 

And now I present it to you, and just maybe, from some place that’s both near and far, our mum can hear it. 

It was emotional to record. I hope you enjoy it…

THIS IS MY 21st Century TAKE ON 'SINNERMAN'

Oh Sinner People is adaptation of a very powerful Song. My 21st Century Version of that Traditional Classic 'Sinner Man'. I learned this song originally from Paul Robeson as a child and later I was influenced by Nina Simone's Power filled interpretation. Her Arrangement was taken up and Published by EMI.(WC MUSIC CORP)

I believed it to be a Traditional Gospel Song but while researching I found the Lester Baxter Recording on waltervdbus YouTube Channel and this explanation for its origin....

"First recording by Les Baxter Orchestra featuring Will Holt Chorus of 'Sinner Man' (Baxter/Holt), possibly better known through later versions by The Weavers (1959), Nina Simone (1964) and Peter Tosh (1966/1971/1977), among many others. The song is clearly adapted from the 1954 gospel tune 'On Judgement Day' (Peacock 1743) by The Sensational Nightingales. (Thanks to Minstrelcraft for the information)."

Wow! What a Journey and all the People who lived through those Centuries running, hiding and dying...Bless....
