“Music is a borderless language”

This is our gargantuan motto at Fauve Records.
With this mission statement arose a new project called 西 WEST & 東 EAST.

Born from the desire to link the world of the West & the East. The idea was to ask two artist/band to collaborate on a split EP, with one original track each and finally to remix each others’ work.

For Volume 1, it is with humble esteem that we present you to Mameen 3 from Belgium/Morocco and Dea from Indonesia. We are extremely happy to launch the new series with this extraordinary collection of retro-futuristic club music.

First up is Mameen 3 with their original title “Dada Glitter”. A hypnotic burner that feels like the instrumental B-side of a fitness instruction song made by Ziad Rahbani's grandson in 2043. Wake up in utopia and find yourself high on XTC on a glittery Bellydance rave under the Moonshine of Djerbas beaches. An absolute sparkler faithfully signed: soFa & Cheb Runner.

On remix duty of the previously mentioned track is the Indonesian future legend called Dea. After getting his hands on a vintage vocoder he pulled out all its magic blessing onto this stripped-down oriental-future-groover. A highly forceful bassline and effectively simple punchy beats do justice to this cosmic vocoder-funk gem. With lush chords and modestly well done modular toms, he puts the cherry on the cake. A masterpiece in a back-alley illegal trafficking vibe with intimate curiosity!

On the flip side is Dea’s original piece “Mesopotamia”. Just when you thought you’ve travelled enough in this EP, the shaman takes it a step further by landing you on a planet where all genres live together in harmony. Classical, space odyssey, salsa, middle-eastern, you name it, the influences are endless. With a clean yet effective 4x4 analogue-sounding pulse, he handles a multiverse of emotions that will take you on the best drugless trip you can experience.

Last but not least, Mameen 3’s “Rai Not Raimix” finishes the EP in style. Re-inventing the genre-less track by giving it an aspect of a sorcerer marching-band. Amidst airy FM trumpets, off-groove claps and enthralled choirs the duo brings along the final smoky touch of this treasury of oddities.

The bangs echoed between the trees, the beautiful bliss drums rumbled in the glow of the warm morning sun. In the distance, down by the shore, he could hear it calling him back towards the forest. It was like some sort of wild summoning, a call to the wild and a call to movement. It seemed as if others all around him had also taken note of the drums for they each began to flock towards the sound. 

Now this is how you do an edit. For real. Lion's Drums has reimagined the material of Manos Tsangaris. This one is a percussive, tribal inspired banger due for release on Cocktail d'Amore. It is destined to soundtrack big festival sets and wild outdoor parties, you've been warned.

A few months after the release of our first album "Bubbling", we decided to have some of its tracks remixed by artists who have been dear friends and collaborators of Mawimbi for a long time (Pouvoir Magique, Jo Bissa, Marius & Cesar, Daniel Monaco, Mr. Boom, Afro Pupo).

A mix of genres and influences, these reworks give a new dynamic to our tracks, from downtempo acid house to Nigerian-influenced afrobeats

Canadian label Breathing Room Records is back with their third digital release after a lengthy pandemic-related hiatus. A little over two years after their previous outing, they are happy to introduce Tropica, a duo from Newcastle, UK. Forest Floor is their debut EP and it includes three original tracks as well as a remix from Toronto-based producer and DJ, Ciel. This is the first remix in Breathing Room’s catalogue.

All three originals are slow and chuggy. Monstera Deliciosa, the opening track, is driven by warm chords and a wobbly synth line while a siren-esque pad weaves in and out. Birds of Paradise continues on a similar wavelength but dives a little further into acid territory with its lead and stays true to its name with different birds contributing to the overall ambience. Devil’s Ivy is a little darker in tone with it’s delayed pads, a didgeridoo and haunting scream-like samples permeating throughout. Ciel’s take on Monstera Deliciosa stays true to the original but introduces a juxtaposing, almost playful lead and tougher percussion, giving the track a faster, bouncier feel.

Dance for Relief is a project that's been on our minds for a while as a way using our music to help raise funds for causes that we are passionate about. With the world currently struggling with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic now felt like it would be the right time to get this project started.

The first project under this banner is a compilation of edits, remixes and secret weapons from various friends, with Volume 1 focusing on cosmic, tribal and trancey sounds of the 90s.

All money from this release will go straight to Direct Relief (directrelief.org), a charity who's mission is to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies, and who are doing great work to ensure that protective gear and critical care medications get to as many health workers as possible. We felt they were a particularly both in the midst of current Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.

Finally, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all the artists involved who have given their skills and time during a difficult period to help make this release happen in support of a worthy cause.
