The new set from the Before The Curfew series features Recid B2B Roman K at Backyard on the 30th of September 2023, is now available on our SoundCloud. 

The cover photo is one of the last shots taken by Roman K on the southern coast of Crimea after the annexation. That day, there was a storm at sea, which symbolically represented the pain, fear, and protest against the events of 2014.

This set marks the first time these two friends have reunited behind the decks, having been away from their hometown and loved ones for a long time. They always have a lot to talk about without using words.

Before the Curfew is a series of music podcasts that emerged in 2022 after the reopening of the club following the liberation of Kyiv. All recordings presented in this series take place before midnight, before the curfew begins. Before the Curfew offers a vibrant snapshot of the Ukrainian music scene amidst challenging times, celebrating resilience, creativity, and unity through music.

Meet Oleksii Sakseev – a member of the crew and a resident at @halas_kyiv.
Nearly all of Oleksii's free time is devoted to digging through music and exploring unusual combinations of different genres. He loves joining B2Bs with other DJs, finding inspiration in the unique synergy they create, as it always leads to something fresh and unexpected.

The mix Oleksii crafted for us reflects his vision of a modern disco sound. It's all about striking a balance between storytelling, showcasing emotional progression, and mastering the techniques to seamlessly compile tracks. The mix's sound is mature, slightly raw, and, if you could touch it, would probably feel like velvet.

Oleksii cites @aalinkaa's performance at ∄ a couple of years ago as a life-changing experience that reshaped his approach to working with well-known tunes in a party context. Another major inspiration for him has been the underground dance studio Community Motion. As a DJ for the studio's disco masterclasses, Oleksii closely explored how dance and music coexist. This experience had a significant influence on the track selection for this mix.

At 105 BPM, this version brings a steady structure while remaining faithful to the mystique of the original. Lashes (Peter Invasion & Gregor Habicht Remix) Peter Invasion and Gregor Habicht take the hypnotic, distortion-heavy 'Lashes' to chaotic new heights. Layered with arpeggiated sounds their remix adds a structured dynamism that contrasts yet complements the track's underlying turbulence. The result is a chaotic harmony, capturing the track's essence while expanding its auditory impact. Energy (Mala Ika Remix) Taking inspiration from In Between's standout dancefloor gem 'Energy,' Paris-based Mala Ika channels Kraftwerk-like vibes with an elevated pitch and vocal stabs that infuse a lighter, almost disco feel. The remix adds brightness and an irresistible house rhythm, lifting the darker original into a pulsing, robotic world, creating a track that feels equally human and mechanical. We’re happy to cordially invite you to the Regression Session, hosted by eternal Philadelphia scene flag bearers @zillasonacid ! And if you think this sounds awfully lot like a scam, you’re probably right: „Regression Session“ is just a front of their illegal black market operation, trading raw uncut gems on a large scale. Just listen to the opener and title track and you won’t exactly have a strong case for the Zillas selling out, but rough as it is, this thing is capable of destroying any dancefloor it touches. Looking at their recent releases it’s fair to say the Z’s are on quite a run, putting out music on labels like Permanent Vacation, Throne Of Blood, Multi Culti or Ivan Smagghe’s Disques de la Mort. Tunes like the sneaky rough slow burners „Underling“ or „Start Digging“ sound like they could be lifted from the latter’s infamous DJ sets, while the deceptively titled „Cha Cha Cha“ or closer „Casual Observer“ justify the „Acid“ in the artist name. „Shining Snakes Across The Lake“ is what some years might have been called a mid-tempo house roller and probably counts as downtempo these days. Speaking of tempos, the penultimate „Sweet Days Of Discipline“ starts of masquerading as reaaally downtempo, but ends up throwing 155bpm kick drums at you, so better watch out, all you k-hole ravers! Let’s not forget to talk about „bquiet“, which is what you’d call mid-tempo house these days (125bpm) and uses the eternally banging combination of a jacking beat, a polyrhythmic bass line, some lead-synth stabs and talking vocal slices. You can practically smell the sweat. So what’s left to say? What you see is what you get: They are Zillas, and they are on Acid. And they provide a collection of eight tunes that probably each don’t necessarily have a double-digit amount of tracks in their DAW projects, and that’s exactly what makes them so forceful. Meet Orphun (@orphun) — a Kyiv-based musician and DJ whose path winds through multiple scenes and genres. From his days in the Ukrainian new wave/post-punk band Cold Comfort to vocal duties in various metal projects, his artistic scope has always been broad. For the past 15 years, his focus has shifted to the many forms of electronic music, with a passion that spans house, techno, electro, acid, EBM, and industrial.

In this episode of Inner Voyage, Orphun slows things down to explore new terrain. Blending downtempo, trip-hop, and soft IDM with touches of his more familiar sonic palette, the mix opens with vibrant ambience, drifts into trippy grooves, moves through minimalist phases, and weaves in tribal and psychedelic motifs — ending on a nostalgic, warm note that ties the whole journey together.
