Story
The Song Nobody Wants to Hear
In a city suspended between mountains and neon lights, where every sound was regulated by the Ministry of Harmony, lived Lúa, a young composer who heard melodies in the silences. While others sang what was permitted hymns of productivity, ballads of obedience she wrote songs that spoke of rifts, of doubts, of fire.
Her latest creation, “The Song Nobody Wants to Hear,” was a hymn to the invisible: to the marginalized, to those who cried in secret, to those who dreamed of breaking the mold. The lyrics didn't rhyme as expected. The rhythm didn't obey the algorithms. And most seriously, it spoke of freedom.
When she presented it at the Festival of Approved Sounds, the judges silenced her. “Too dissonant,” they said. “Too human.” The song was censored, her name erased from the archives, and Lúa was condemned to silence.
But something strange happened.
Festivalgoers, who had only heard it for a few seconds before the audio cut out, began humming it in their homes. The melody seeped into the markets, on the trains, into their dreams. No one knew the full lyrics, but everyone felt it spoke directly to them.
Lúa, exiled in the underground tunnels where the banned musicians lived, began recording new versions with recycled instruments: umbrella strings, drums made from jerry cans, synthesizers made from forgotten circuits. Each version was different, each performance a spark.
The song no one wanted to hear became the song everyone needed.
The Ministry tried to counter it with noise campaigns, but it was useless. Authenticity couldn't be silenced. Lúa hadn't just broken the mold: she'd taught others how to shape theirs.
