Free Palestine Sherman Austin Beatstars Remix Challenge

2003 - Zack De La Rocha from Rage Against the Machine spoke on the case of Sherman Austin from RaiseTheFist.com at a benefit show in San Diego 3 days before Sherman was ordered to self-surrender to federal US marshals to serve a year sentence in federal prison. On Jan 24, 2002 Sherman was surrounded in his home by heavily armed federal agents from the FBI and Secret Service Los Angeles Joint-Terror task force. Sherman's home was being raided under the newly passed USA Patriot Act which had just been signed into law 3 months prior. Federal agents accused Sherman of posting and authoring information on how to build and manufacture explosives on raisethefist.com when in fact they knew this information was authored and posted by a different individual. Federal agents seized all computer equipment from Sherman's home where he was running RaiseTheFist.com. Two weeks later Sherman was arrested by the FBI in New York where numerous federal agents from the FBI and Secret Service attempted to interrogate him. He was then booked into a maximum security federal jail (high security "hole") cell at Manhattan MCC on the same cell block with suspected Al Qaeda members convicted for blowing up the USS Cole and US Embessy bombing in Kenya. Sherman was 18 years old at the time.. He had committed no crime, his only crime was speaking out, running RaiseTheFist.com , a popular open publishing independent news anarchist web site which gained world wide popularity. The FBI attempted to silence him not for what he did but for what he stood for. Sherman was eventually sentenced to a year in federal prison under USC 18 FELONY 'DISTRIBUTION OF INFORMATION RELATED TO EXPLOSIVES OR WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION' under a statue written by Senator Dianne Feinstein under Clinton's 1997 anti-terrorism bill with the help of John Ashcroft. Sherman was the first person to ever be convicted under this law. Even more disturbing perhaps is the FBI knew Sherman had nothing to do with authoring any information about explosives or "weapons of mass destruction". Instead they deliberately lied in court documents and fabricated false statements where they said Sherman admitted to writing this information when their own case discovery (which was later sealed under national security) reveals that they knew the true author of the information all along.
