After the enormous success of his self titled debut album, one of Soul music's brightest stars, Jarrod Lawson, gets the remix treatment from the mighty Scandinavian producer Opolopo. 'Sleepwalkers' hails the first of a series of remixes forthcoming for this blue-eyed soul-jazz genius. Opolopo takes the Latin fused original and works his feel-good magic planting it on Summer's dance floors. His stunning arrangement oozes pure class, teased with smooth Jazzy keys underpinned by bouncing Soulful beats that together dance beautifully around Jarrod's incredible voice.

Hailed by the London Evening Standard as “the biggest Soul-Jazz sensation in years", Jarrod Lawson is arguably Soul music’s brightest star. He has recently won Best Soul Artist of the Year at the UK’s Jazz FM Awards, beating D’Angelo and Lalah Hathaway. Jarrod Lawson occupies the jazzier side of the soul genre. Alongside an amazing, heartfelt vocal range and considerable talent at the keys, he writes, produces and arranges.  Among his fans are  radio presenter/tastemaker Gilles Peterson.  At Peterson’s 2015 Worldwide Awards event in London, Jarrod came second in the Album of the Year category.  It has certainly been a whirlwind 12 months for the Portland, Oregon-based musician.  He has shared stages with John Legend, Erykah Badu, Average White Band, and even played at his hero Stevie Wonder’s birthday party. Jarrod is a multi-talented, multi-faceted artist and whether he plays Funk, Folk, R&B, Rock or Jazz, “everything he touches turns to Soul”, as one critic wrote. He plans to spend six weeks in Europe this Autumn, with dates lined up at New Morning, Paris (October 27) and London’s Shepherds Bush Empire (November 14), along with shows in Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.  In July he attracted rave reviews for his performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam and the UK’s Love Supreme festival.

OPOLOPO is Yoruban for "plenty", a word that best exemplifies the diversity of this musician, dj, remixer, composer and production wizard’s voyage! Whether it's funk, house, or future soul, his compositions and productions are always uncompromising with a steady gaze on the horizon and a quick glance in the rear-view mirror. Born in Zirc, Hungary he spent the early part of his creative development touring with a keyboardist father and listening to fusion and electronic records. Artists like Herbie Hancock, Earth Wind & Fire, Quincy Jones, Jean-Michel Jarre, Isao Tomita, and Kraftwerk helped feed his ingenuity. Equipped with keyboards, vocoder, and modern technology OPOLOPO plays from London to Tokyo, as a one man band, with jazz ensemble Expansions, or with primary collaborator AMALIA. His music spans over a decade on labels such as JVC Japan, Warner Brothers, Sony/BMG, Tru Thoughts, Z Records, Om Records, Local Talk and Especial Records. Collaboration/remix highlights include the legendary Dazz Band, Craig David, Mr. V, Lanu, Simon Grey, Ok_Ma, Mpho Skeef, Eska Sacha Williamson and his incredible version of Gregory Porter’s “1960 What?".

Better Listen Records has brought the fire since its inaugural release last year. A DC based house label that gives nods to disco and funk. The music feels familiar but also feels like the future. Here at Bolting Bits we are no strangers to a Better Listen Premiere, today's track comes from the king of soul and funk laden house, thatmanmonkz. Everyone with an interest in house music should know a thatmanmonkz track, he has released on some of the most important labels around such as Delusions Of Grandeur, Classic, Dirt Crew and his own much celebrated Shadeleaf. Putting together an album is no mean feat but to bring the vibes like he did on Colombusing is testament to what the Sheffield born and bred producer has in his locker. This EP was inspired by a mini tour in the US and more specifically, as the name suggests, Washington DC.

The A1 track is called Sweetiez Fresh. Just over five minutes of fresh guitar flicks, syncopated kicks, finger lickin good bass lines and the horniest horns! It all kicks off with filtered percs and aforementioned guitar with thatmanmonkz' signature background vibe noise. It doesn't take long to get into the swing of things, chord changes perfect for the summer solstice. A chugger anthem for your beach soundtrack and beyond.

The monkz and Better Listen connection is strong and on the face of this release, we hope it continues.
