the making of ilanga lase'busuku turned out to be one of my most cherished sessions i had with takatso. well before i tell the story filled with smiles and happiness, one question: the naming of a song should be the easiest part in making music right? nope... not with this one. actually... nothing is ever easy with takatso but anyway. i originally made the beat with a straight forward concept in mind, a weird concept when i now think about it but when i was making the beat, it kinda made sense. you probably wondering, what the hack?? but i specifically made the beat for a person who has to catch a taxi to work, school or home. and am not talking about any other taxi, am talking about a white isiyaya driven by umzulu phaqa with a short temper when you miscounted his money. i made it for the ones who give a 110% in everything they do. whether a 9 to 5, university or college, the chasing your dreams grind or the i have to hustle for my family person, i made it with them in mind. i titled the untitled beat "feel good today" with the intention of listeners could bump to it in the morning and whether they predicting a shity day today, i hoped they would play this jem in the morning and feel good for the rest of the day. takatso and i meet way back in high school, i actually liked his freestyles in rap battles we had but that's just a story another day, and when he pulled through to the studio, i played him the beat and he immediately started pulling up hooks and flows from different verses he wrote on his notepad and we started "knitting" different lyrics together. luna: that's was the name i came up with after recording the song. takatso thought i was making reference on what he said on the chorus said "don't worry babe the moon will take me home" nope. luna was actually the name i gave my dog which passed on around that time. she was two months old before she passed on. sad but takatso and sifiso thought i shouldn't take my sob story and make it the center story of this "beautiful" song. it was actually hard for me to change the title cause i wanted something that could remind me of her. ilanga lase'busuku: this title has so many versions of the same story so if i would tell you my version of it, some would be lies in takatso's eyes. but to some it all up, i couldn't illustrate the vibes that occurred on those sessions with the boy. can't forget sifiso with the hums.
