Piet Møbler is the moniker of a Zurich based artist, traditionally busy in various roles of the local electronic music scene, meanwhile contemplating about the impermanence of those very same occupations. Yet, his love for dance music is stronger than ever. 
His intention behind this mix was to find a worthy place for music that he has accumulated over the last year but could not really process yet.

Drawing musical inspiration from industrial works is not exactly a new thing. Yet, we were very excited when Mira Laune flexed® with what we call a modern-day interpretation of the theme. After well over a year of hearing construction work right in front of her home in Basel, the DJ and radio host Mira Laune decided to make the best out of it and reached for her own power tools. The result is a well-crafted and rugged mix for the curious rhythmophiles.

We have nothing but praise for Endobliss and their work, to which they fittingly refer to as 'shycore'. For the Shifted sounds series, Endobliss weaves sophisticated stories made from pop fragments, glitchy IDM and future-proof jungle and hardcore. While this blend clearly builds on a high level of sophistication and skill, the mix' original intention is to rather overcome the thinker and interact on a physical level instead.

As the warmth of the summer has faded and the nights are getting longer and colder, the nocturnals are now gathering in the wet and filthy underground. This dark environment appears uncanny and hostile at first, but soon turns out to feel more and more like home and shelter. Weird creatures become friends. Bizzare how things transform when you open up to them.

This mix was recorded from vinyl by Piet Møbler in anticipation of the first SHIFTED night on 28 Oct 2016 at Kraftfeld, Winterthur. That night is the start of a series to enter darker realms of dance music. Special guest of the first episode is @Borusiade, a true native from the intriguing dark corners of wave, disco and techno. Support by the ever-inspiring and local favourites @JackPattern.

The Hague's wonderful and (very rightfully) self-proclaimed "adventurous and forward thinking" Rewired Festival happens to be at the origin of this mix: Luring long time vinylist Sky Captain northwards very recently, he stopped over at Bordello A Parigi's brand new home base in Amsterdam on his way back to Zurich. Unsurprisingly, he found himself in a heaven of wax and decided to create a mix consisting almost exclusively of records brought home from this very rich Dutch harvest, including a double take from a yet-to-be-released EP on Giallo Disco. The result is an increasingly rugged sonic journey with the occasional ray of warmth ripping through the towering dark clouds, allowing queer things to grow beneath.

His long-running weekly Disco Panonia radio show for IFM is where he draws his musical vision which formed in the dark and raw underground of Zagreb in its early '90s. At our first encounter with Nikolaj W, we immediately understood he is a deep one: his style, the images he creates, the darkness in his selection. Ever since, we never heard him play anymore,  but when he offered to record a mix we naturally knew we would get something exciting. And here we are now: Zürich based Nikolaj W created a moody soundtrack for the helpless quest of an unsettled daydreamer.

She sent us a thick and caustic mix representing her fine taste of industrial electro and alike. The session was recorded one year ago and still sounds fresh like on the first day.

DJ Auntone sports an impressive collection of leftfield electronica, accumulated over more than three decades. He was once a resident at the infamous Malercollegium Winterthur, a downtown 2-room-flat turned into an illegal bar and a nightlife insiders’ favourite. It was probably there, some thirteen years ago, when we first heard him play (without noticing). Auntone has also been playing a monthly session (Editanstalt) at Kraftfeld Winterthur since exactly twenty years now. He later joined Kraftfeld as an active member and still is most active there, as a resident and (amongst many other things) doing artworks, like the one provided here. The mix he recorded for us takes us back to the time where his electronic taste crystallised, offering an immersive selection of foggy illbient and reduced industrial from that era.

Zurich-based Lumpex has explored the roots of electronic music for years, particularly of the Rave-, Hardcore- and Drum&Bass-scenes. While his style would have made the (Metal)headz back then nod in approval, his creations now appear as true gemstones of an osbscure subculture. Lumpex' contribution to our mix series is exactly what we would expect from the enigmatic underground mainstay: Unpredictable, radical and inherently genuine.

In a hot summer night in July 2019 in Zurich, the tiny Garage29 gathered its cushions and hosted a dusk-till-dawn listen- and doze-session. Lay back to re-listen the recording from Haya33, who took us on a absorbing trip into her dreamlike sonic worlds. Haya33 is a genre-crossing vinyl enthuisiast and field recorder from Biel, who, as an artist and promoter, has providided her hometown as well as Brussels with great sounds.

Our next guest on the mix series has been one of our favourite local artists ever since she caught our attention with a bang two years ago. molekühl has impressed us as a sensitive live musician, a quirky selector/DJ and a forward-thinking contributor to various local electronic music institutions, like the @rhizomfestival, @quarantaene and, since most recently, @kraftfeld. molekühl's contribution to Shifted 𝑠𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑠 is a dense yet refined trip into rather ‘UK’ territories: raw, bass-heavy, jerky and shuffling – starting with a piece called ‘awakening’ and ending with ‘the dawn’.

Amygdala has been a dancefloor ninja for half her life already, all the while passionately training her taste, until around 1.5 years ago when she also started to make music and play the records she has been silently collecting. Needless to say, we're quite pleased she did. Her selection is generally flawless and presented with effective force, so that in the case of this mix, we were carried behind the two-hour mark with ease.
